Radeon extremely low market share, only 8% in Q3 2022?

What do you want from AMD to improve, so that makes you buy a Radeon?

Q3 2022 Discrete GPU Market Share Report: NVIDIA Gains 88% Market Share Hold, AMD Now at 8% Followed By Intel at 4% (wccftech.com)

Things are looking very grim for AMD - bankruptcy just in sight?

Market share for AMD reported to be extremely low - I think it had never been that low prior to this report!

nvidia - 88%
AMD - 8%

Intel - 4%

Graphics cards shipments are down with no hopes for a better future:

"During Q3 2022, total PC GPU shipments declined by -25.1% (Y/Y) out of which desktop graphics saw a -15.43% decline and notebook graphics saw a -30% decline."

"So coming to the discrete GPU market share numbers, the report tells us that the dGPU shipments decline to 14 million units versus 24 million units in the previous year. That's a drop of -41.6% & is quite massive if you consider that the third quarter is usually the strongest growth quarter for PCs. During this quarter, NVIDIA managed to raise its market hold to 88%, a record number followed by AMD whose market hold declined to single-digit figures of just 8%."

All kinds of data out there.

Take it with a grain of salt.

I know a few people that went to consoles due to the PC parts pricing since covid, and with the doom & gloom news people are watching the cash flow more, and crypto went flop, so kind of the perfect storm for gaming cards sales to slow down.

Benchmark Scores bench...mark? i do leave mark on bench sometime, to remember which one is the most comfortable. :o
actually ... i wonder if

well AMD GPU are not only discrete PC segment, do the survey take in account every single PS5 and XbOSX (and previous iterations), Steamdeck APU and Samsung RDNA3/ARM SOC?

well actually no, since it only focus on discrete ... oh well nothing really grim in the end, just logical follow up of these awful and weird time we got recently since 2020.

AMD is active on many fronts and the bottom line is that they are profitable. I'm sure you remember the times when AMD was going into debt by hundreds of millions of dollars a year.
For 2022 they are expected to have a revenue of around 26 billion dollars which is up 43% over 2021 and profits are expected to be up over 2021 as well.

Well, maybe ARM can be considered as a competitor, and also VIA since it owns an x86 license.

AMD needs something else.

Maybe to drop the Radeon brand which carries so much negativism and is unknown for the large majority of users.
AMD needs to start everything from zero and a new beginning, maybe as a start-up with brand new reputation, strategy, products and innovations that attract more buyers.
No, you just dont know what you are talking about. This poll looks written by a 16 year old.

that really has nothing to do with the survey, does it.
Its the basis under it. The perception AMD needs to 'do something or else'. But they command the console market and their IP is required for other products in the company. I said it before, AMD pushes discrete gpu for pc not to gain lots of share, esp not the top end.

Marketing is certainly a problem, if they think this is going to be effective...

There are other problems also (e.g. strategic decisions regarding the technology goals Radeon Group should have, business related approach regarding what methods needed to gain market penetration in each country/channel etc)
Also they are trying with every chance to increase prices when they think they are going to get away but they are doing it the wrong way, with the wrong price deltas and without the right marketing message/approach to carry it out (just look at Zen4 pricing strategy, it was clear and easy to read what will happen weeks before the launch...)

What do you want from AMD to improve, so that makes you buy a Radeon?

so they don't need to do nothing to the Radeon brand because of consoles? and you will buy a Radeon card because of consoles? how does that work?

Ps5 30 million sold.
Xbox x 20 million sold.

That's just two.

That's 50million Radeon integrated, contemporary gaming devices.

That's quite a few.

AMD makes most of their money from other things than discrete gaming GPUs. They have tried slashing their prices on discrete gaming GPUs in the past even before ray tracing was a thing and most still bought Nvidia anyway.

Are you implying Nvidia's are!??!, I disagree with that they're both on crack.

As far as I am aware of the contracts they have with the console companies do not make that much money by the amount of discount they have given to them. IMHO these contracts were made during a time where AMD needed the money.

Still reasonable compared to your ngreedia

Both.

No nVidia's prices are ridiculous as well but as a leader they define them.
AMD responds to them, shouldn't follow them. Let alone when they can't compete.

It's bad because after years of high prices, performance stagnation and nVidia's behavior, people want to buy a 7900XT/XTX at the right price.

you're not really buying the Randeon brand, picking a Radeon product are you? It's like saying i'm buying the windscreen wiper brand when i bought my car.
They would have bought a PS5 with a Intel, Nvidia or Coca Cola GPU on it.

So you want ignoring due to a fanboi slant that is exceptional?!.

That's what I read from that , there's no reasoning with your trolling.

You do you.

But back off telling me anything anymore, you're wasting your trolling bye.

@Icon Charlie and, your proof for that belief, would it matter anyway, it's about market presence this thread not profit dominance?!.

90% of this threads a shitpost or troll I vote lock/ wtaf is the point of this.

AMD makes far more money from other things than DGPUs and even console APUs. Look into their business model and you will see where they make most of their money. There are a few that just want AMD to cut the price on DGPUs to the point that AMD is basically giving them away but it doesn't work to gain market share. Look at how the give away strategy is working for Epic.

Really? I had no idea. I never paid it much attention since I never used it. I've just seen Havok everywhere and I know that it was the underdog competitor to PhysX back in the day. Now it's the dominant physics engine and PhysX is open-source (since nVidia couldn't milk it anymore).

Wrong, AMD had 30-35% marketshare when their best GPU was 5700XT
This was probably due to mining, the RX4/580 was very popular.

What do you want from AMD to improve, so that makes you buy a Radeon?

so they don't need to do nothing to the Radeon brand because of consoles? and you will buy a Radeon card because of consoles? how does that work?
No. The topic starts with the usual doom and gloom about AMD and dwindling market share because of a decades old market share graph that is regurgitated for the 'n'th time.

AMD is not capturing more share because it chose not to. And here we are, the sheep thinking and voting on what they might improve to sell more. Wake up! AMD and PC gaming werent a match made in heaven ever since they struck console deals, even prior to Zen. They dont buy the volume at fabs and they priced a 'fine' 7900 line up just too high to see them flying off shelves.

you're not really buying the Randeon brand, picking a Radeon product are you? It's like saying i'm buying the windscreen wiper brand when i bought my car.
They would have bought a PS5 with a Intel, Nvidia or Coca Cola GPU on it.
Exactly. If AMD wants to improve Radeon brand image, all they have to force is a 'powered by AMD Radeon' sticker on every console. That one aint in the poll options :)

Dont turn the world around - thats what this topic is doing. IT IS AMD that keeps releasing and pricing product such that it wont make meaningful waves. Its been clear since forever what they need to do. They never do it. Not a single gen is problem free and/or on shelves at good enough numbers to even make a dent in Nvidia strategy. Heck they even left their IGP behind for gaming, it was using Vega arch not too long ago, even when RDNA2 was out.

Their strategy is clear. Volume markets where they know they have a stronger line-up is where they put the main focus. The rest? They keep a presence and thats it. They follow and do not lead. They use it to test new technologies for their volume markets.

Wrong, AMD had 30-35% marketshare when their best GPU was 5700XT
Market share yes. Good margins no

that makes no sense, on one side console users don't care about the components, like i said they would buy consoles with a coca cola APU, and sony and microsoft would never go for it, they are paying for a component not marketing a company, maybe if AMD made a big discount
