Radeon R3 SSD; Worth Owning?

I see Amazon has a sale on the 240 GB version and was wondering if anyone here has tried one. Obviously they are made by someone else which complicates firmware and warranty issues.

I don't think warranty might be an issue, it's more about the firmware, it can break or make an SSD. An example are Patriot Spark SSDs (which are fairly new at the moment) that went on sale recently in select regions, I tested one and their software wouldn't even try and look for firmware because of some obscure error message telling the SSD had an incompatible controller for firmware updates, which is really dumb. When I saw the error message I almost bashed my head in, they stopped supporting a recently released product, what!?

The R3 is okay, price seems good, especially when there's some FUD going on about SSD prices spiking (it has already happened in europe, most ssd's are 10 euros more than before), but drives like ADATA SP's or Intel 500 series usually perform better (about 5-15%), but you probably wouldn't notice the performance difference anyway.

TL;DR: If it was my choice I would get one.

They are made by a company called Galt. I haven't heard of them, so I wouldn't expect great support.

Thanks, I have W7 and never ever under any circumstances let it update. So any W10 or Windows updates that break all the things are a non-issue. Think I'll take a chance with a worst case I send it back if it doesn't mesh. Or shove it into a family member's machine next time one asks for tech help. Really wanted to try a Samsung 850 pro but life goes on.

Yes, Galt. Firmware site went dark middle of last month. Crucial price dumps never appeared beyond the Black Friday sale I posted here and missed out on. Same with the $75 850 Evo Samsung on Newegg the week before I now regret.

Andddddd... no. I'm focusing too much on price instead of the long term stability and overall performance I would appreciate more. I need to just walk into Microcenter and hand those good folks some cash.

Not sure who makes the AMD R7 but i have had one since before release {I was given one for review} and it's been great. I still use it till today and I love it. I usually prefer Intel SSDs but the R7 is awesome.

Just looked it up OCZ makes the R7.
