just curious what this model used for, it seems this one is overpriced new retail, but i found cheapest one (fullpackage, saphhire 3 fans+long warranty applied still), almost same price as 5700/2060s, quick question, whats this card made for? it seems isnt popular for gaming purphose i guess, any idea?

Not just for workstation, but yeah it is the best "compute oriented" gaming GPU AMD has to offer.

There's no equivalent card from Nvidia, not since they made the Titan virtually irrelevant except for bragging rights.

I think it was their first (or was it THE first?) GPU made with 7nm process. Turned out to have little to show for it in terms of gaming. Although, I imagine some GPGPU application required high memory bandwidth can make full use of it. Too bad I have too much stuff relying on CUDA libraries, otherwise I would have persuaded my boss to buy one and test it out.

It was a Stripped down Radeon instinct card, they made very little of them and are already eol. They are good when prices are fair for them, however a washer mod is needed

When the card was introduced it was hailed as a 'Gaming card' which in a sense it is, but not a 100% gaming card and that was very misleading.. Can it be used to play games yes. Can it be used used for compute yes. Can it be used for mining yes. Can it be used for video editing yes.

Now I did buy a Radeon VII in March (or it was going to be a 2080) and for what I wanted the Radeon VII does what it should..it is a master on none yet can do it all very very efficiently. I have no buyers remorse and really the Radeon VII, with a little work, is a BEAST of a card. If you want plug n play go to Nvidia (I have used Nvidia GPU also) and I am neither a fan boi of either.. I vote with my $$ for what I need/use.

Of course people no can say 'you should have bought a 5700' well it was not out back then and you know what, when the new cards come in about 4-6 months people will say 'you should have bought x card' instead of a 5700 etc etc.

Without CUDA and Tensorflow support the “computation” usage is extremely limited. Very few people code using OpenCL with GCN in mind. Also IIR R7 does not have ECC?

It is probably good for some specific coded work load though. And crypto mining for sure

I had hopes for better usage of memory in Eyefinity mode, but only little gain. Still hopeing for a good Navi solution with more than 8GB - Hope for some AMD releases on 7nm+ in 2020
