RAGE 2 Benchmark Test & Performance Analysis

It's one of those games that just simply isn't worth the $60 asking price. Just like the first one. I'll definitely give it a go once it's 20ish bucks.

Also if Just Cause 4 is anything to go by, it's no surprise the performance is crap. Shame they didn't go with idtech.

Is idSoftware the same without Carmack?

They seem to be doing fine. Doom was great, and they worked partially on Rage 2 as well. Which is why everyone is praising the gunplay.
Next Doom is close, and a lot of idtech games are coming out soon.
They still know how to make good games and good engines.

those who said Rage 2 was an "unoptimized" game probably didn't upgrade their 3+ year old "high end" hardware & thinking low-level API like Vulkan is going to give more leverage over DX11 or DX12 API. The game was tested with all the settings at Ultra or maxed out, which is the "worst case scenario". If you want more than 60fps, tone down the graphics settings. If it still not enough, ditch that old Maxwell & Pascal GPUs in favor of a Turing one. It's not rocket science.

The performance would have been fine if the game looked amazing, but it doesn't. Especially for a 2019 AAA title.

Performance is terrible. I turned off the bullcrap, set shadows/lighting/ssao to high, fxaa (b/c taa is unplayable) and it chugs. Surprise, another garbo game with poor visuals.

Dear Nvidia, for the love of god put more bandwidth on your bloody cards.
I'm sure with a wider memory bus "almost" all Nvidia cards could perform 10~ percent better at 4K.
Vega 56 beating the 1080 at 4K is purely due to the bandwidth limitations.

This reminds me of Intel never innovating (with their unbelievable prices) until Ryzen crept up and gobsmacked them.
Nvidia's doing just the same until they're forced into doing better. Give it time.

Spending $1300 on a graphics card that can't run Rage 2 at 4k? ouch.

I'd love to see it benched with 2 x V56 given they are around €300 these days.

Once I get the game, I can use my two Vega-64s on it. That might be a good test for it's functionality.

Shocking. They should have stuck with the engine from DOOM or something.

the amount of salt in here is higher than the Dead Sea...

No salt, just pure facts. Game not only runs worse than ACO, Latest TR and BF5 (4k, 2080Ti), it also looks worse.

have you even played the game, let alone bench on your own terms?

No CrossFire support

Well yeah it's up-to developer to make multi-gpu Vulkan working. While Khronos says it should be pretty trivial, I'm not aware any game actually using it.

How about another denuvo vs no denuvo?

I don't think there's no denuvo version available, some cracked one does not count because they usually does not remove denuvo they just bypass it.

Edit: just a bit language tuning...

It’s not actually possible unless a removed denuvo version was offered or accidentally released.

Bethesda has removed Denuvo. That was quick.

From the article:

"We’ve tested the Denuvo-free version and while the game loads faster now, there is no noticeable performance differences between the Denuvo and the Denuvo-free versions."

Yes it was! I was just reading that.

I got the game bought for me yesterday and it's not too bad so far despite my reservations. Runs fairly well considering my system, turned SSAO to medium, motion blur off, and shadow reflections to medium and it's pretty smooth @ 1080p.

It's a little annoying having to hold E rather than just pressing it to pick up stuff or talk to people but I've only got a few minor gripes atm. Guns are ok, key bindings are a bit weird but it's definitely a step up from the previous one, not Doom 2016 kind of uplift but not that bad.

I have this game without Denuvo version. I'm running an i7 @5ghz and two MSI gtx 1080 gaming X SLI.
I would have to say that this game is a disappointment. I have tried this on 4k with AA disabled and getting
18-22 fps. The graphics is also a mediocre for a 2019 game release. No SLI or crossfire support makes it
even worst.

After getting to Wellspring, doing some side-missions and hearing my car talk for the 17 millionth time I'm taking back some of what I said above haha.... the gun-play is decent but the story, voice acting/syncing and stupid names for the people in the cities is cringeworthy. It's trying so hard to be edgy that it comes off as Knight-madmax-rider McDiscount.
