RAID card and Z68 - Compatibility question

Hi everyone. I always have very esoteric computer problems, and this one is no different. I'm wondering if anyone can help me with it/

The motherboard in my storage/web hosting/HTPC server (a EVGA Z68 SLI) is beginning to fail and I need to RMA it. But I can't be without the server while the RMA processes, so I need to find another motherboard to replace it. I am wondering if I can just replace it with any motherboard that supports the processor because I came across a compatibility issue with the EVGA Z68 SLI motherboard, and I don't know if this issue is specific to this board or to the entire line of chipsets.

The system will only boot when my RAID card is plugged into the PCIe x4 slot connected to the PCH; the system will not boot when the card is plugged into the second PCIe x8 slot connected to the CPU. When I'm shopping for a new motherboard, should I make sure it has a PCIe x4 slot connected to the PCH, or was this issue I was having specific to my EVGA board and I can plug the RAID card into the second PCIe x8 in any other board?

(For anyone wondering why I bought a 2500K to use it at stock speeds, I got the 2500K because it was less expensive than the 2500 at Micro Center)

For all those in the future who may be have the same problem and be interested in the topic, I found the issue. Apparently, when using the RAID card in the processor's PCIe slots, the RAID card must be in slot 1 (x16/x8) and the graphics card in slot 2 (x8). The system will not work the other way around. I suspect this has something to do with the option ROM of the RAID card needing priority over graphics. This is applicable for both the Z68 board and the new Z77 MSI Z77A-GD55 I bought.

ASUS does extra qualification testing on their WS line to make sure workstation-oriented products like RAID cards, NIC cards and whatnot work properly. If I was you I would look into the P8P67 WS Revolution or the P8Z77 WS. I can't vouch for any sort of compatibility though as I've never used any workstation parts on my Revo.
