Hey, I'm having problems getting 2x 1GB sticks of Kingston KVR667D2N5/1G memory working with my motherboard. I have an ECS C51GM-M, which supports up to DDR2 800, so the memory I just bought should work.

When I put them in, and boot my computer up, all I get is a 2 second beep repeating every 3 seconds or so. This usually means there's a problem with the RAM.

Any ideas?

p.s. The RAM I'm running on right now are 2x 512MB Kingston KHX6400D2LLK2/1G.

Please go to the UserCP at the top of the page, fill out your system specs to the best of your ability, then tick the show otheres your specs box.

Other than that does your bios possibly have memtest built into it?

If not then go and get a copy burned to CD so you can test your RAM!!!!

What were the timings and voltages that you last set when your old sticks were in the board? Are your new sticks capable or running at those timings and volts?

Stick the old ones back in, readjust the mem settings in the BIOS to something loose (5,5,5,15) and set the volts according to the manufacturers specs THEN try to plug your new RAM in...

Filled out my specs.

My BIOS does not have memtest, but I'll get it on a CD and test my RAM asap.

The motherboard only allows me to set the max mem clock, which is auto, and the voltage to 1.85v to 2.01v. Right now it's set to 1.85v. Those settings work with my old sticks, but don't work with my new ones. I don't see why it doesn't though, because the new sticks only need 1.8v.

So....no provision for setting the timings on the RAM?

*edit*

Taking a quick look at teh mobo manual, starting on pg. 35 you can access the Advanced BIOS options>DRAM Configuration>Timing mode (set to manual).

Did the memtest, I can't test out the new memory since I can't boot up with it, but I tested the memory I'm currently using, and there were no errors.

When I go into timing mode, the only options I can select are the memory speeds: DDR 667, DDR 800, etc.

Well, you are in luck. Here is a link to a site that has a modified BIOS that will unlock the ability to adjust mem timings!:toast:

You'll have to copy/paste the rapidshare link to make it work since I used Goggle translator on the page.:o

Wow, now I've got an even bigger problem, I updated the BIOS with the one you sent me, and now, when I boot up it freezes at the first screen that's displayed (the one that shows press DEL to enter bios setup).

It won't let me do anything at that point, when I press DEL to enter the setup i just get a low beep from the mobo. Same thing happens when I press F11 (supposed to let me choose what to boot from), or any other button for that matter. Alt+Ctrl+Del seems to restart it...

Well, thankfully your manufacturer's website keeps a copy of your BIOS...

Was there any readme files with the BIOS, like what speeds it was setting?

Were you using the old sticks or the new? Most likely, the new BIOS reset everything back to default. So if you used your new stick it was trying to run it at 4,4,4,12 @ 1.6V which ain't gonna fly with your 5,5,5,15 @ 1.8V rated memory.

Nothing that can't be sorted. Just take your time. There was mention of another source for a modded BIOS for your board that would unlock memory timings, but I'm not into holding hands on a first date. Google is your friend...

There was no readme, and I was using my old sticks. I just want to know how to get this thing working again. It just freezes.

*sigh*

Take this "ECS C51GM-M" and copy into a Google/Yahoo/Ask Jeeves search. Find the one that is from your manufacturer's website. Download BIOS for your board. Update.

I think there's a little misunderstanding here...

I know where to get the BIOS, but that's not what I need to know right now. How am I supposed to update when I can't even get my computer to boot up? It won't boot from a floppy, or anything. Like I said, it just freezes.

Tried clearing CMOS? Power down and move the CMOS jumper to pins 2&3. Remove battery for 5 min. Replace battery. Power up.

Report back.

Still Nothing.

This is with the old memory? Funny that it freezes at the first screen. Seems like the BIOS is O.K., just the settings aren't working with your hardware.

I would suggest you power down, unplug the power cord, remove the battery and let it sit for a while. Then you could remove the RAM and try one stick. See if that works.

Not to insult you, but make sure you are performing the CMOS reset correctly. Did you switch the jumper back to pins 1&2 before or after you powered up?

Well, I left the battery out a little longer than usual, and it still freezes.

I'm pretty sure I'm doing it right. I switched the jumper back before I powered up.

I am having the same issue, I have tried clearing the CMOS via jumper and battery removal however neither works. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Should have just sent the memory back it obviously aint compatable with your board if it was working fine before. Or the memorys faulty.
And so is your mobo now if that was a bad bios flash.:(

I wouldnt have flashed anything with unstable memory what if it crashed!!?
That was bad advice for somone thats obviously inexperienced with pc's.

shame on you Spankenstein.

Tried booting with a single stick?

Fingers crossed it aint the bios. Bios flashing is very risky even for pros.

lol, never use a hacked bios.. imo

Have you tried using a flash drive from the computer you are using now to download the bios update? Then tried booting off the flash drive with the problem board? That could solve problem.
