Ramsinks

I just bought a Vantec Iceberg 4, and its been working great, but it came with 4 BGA ramsinks, which are not long enough for my memory, should i put them on anyways? I do not plan on overclocking the memory but would this help the memory run cooler, even a little bit?

If they are at least twice as long as the mem chips, cut them in half with a hack-saw so that you get 8, which will be enough for your card if it has BGA (square RAM). If it has TSOP (rectangular RAM) don't do it because then they won't fit at all well.

I have TSOP ram chips, and BGA ram sinks, would it help at all to put the BGA ramsinks on my TSOP ram chips? I dont plan on overclocking, just want it a bit cooler

Sorry, I should have read it properly, but, I didn't I guess it would belp a bit, the parts in contact will be able to conduct heat to them.

Put it this way, they won't do any harm if you stick them on the card.

don't put them on. make your own like me. I cut up a old P1 heatsink

You could do that, but it's easier to just stick the ones you have onto the card seeing as you're not overclocking.

wazzledoozle - do you plan to put ramsinks on for looks? Otherwise, why spend the time to fix something that ain't broke? Throw those puppies on and see what you can get

Also, ive noticed that the Ramsinks are usually applied to the side of that card that the GPU is on, but its seem like it it would be more efficient to mount them on the other half of the card that faces up, because heat rises.

You should apply them to both sides as all the ram modules get the same temperature, though the ones on the back of the card should work more efficiently

If you have a blowhole fan, mount the ramsinks so that the fins are perpendicular to the fan (parallel to the airflow). Conversely, if the air in your case is moving from front to back, mount the ramsinks perpendicular to the case fans. The point is to get as much air as possible moving over the ramsinks

Vantec do some nice copper BGA ramsinks,proper ones,not the crappy ones that came with your hsf,i should know,i did the same thing ! You get 8 in a pack,mount them both sides.

Those Ramsinks are this good: Absolute crap. I have them and they suck big time.... also, they are BGA, and you want TSOP sinks... Thermal take do some, I just don't remember where I saw them, type 'Thermaltake ramsinks' into google and see if you can find them.

Tweakmonster standards are nice, although the bases could use some lapping...
