I totally feel you my friend. Just a few days ago I went to Frys' and well was shocked to say the least! I was yelling in the store things you can't say hear! Like 2k For a F Computer that's F insane!!!! And much much more people stared at me!
I did however manage to get a Rysen3 1300X AMD CPU and One single stick of 8Gb Viper Ram and coupled that with gigabyte's GA-AB350M-Gaming3 MB and a new 3t WD HDD with windows 10 OEM all that cost $545.00 Dollars!

Then If I wanted a new video card ( I REALLY DO ) I would have to shell out another $600.00 Minimum Dollars? OK INSERT EXPLETIVES HERE _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________!

I have a bad feeling that eventually discreet video cards are going to be something that only the rich can afford and that the rest of us are going to have to settle for systems with integrated graphics like that one I linked to above. When that day comes (and I think it's already here) it will be a sad day for PC gaming, a sad day indeed.

I did upgrade, no regrets, as prices came down abit after christmas and NYE. I don't think prices will plummet soon enough for me to have waited.

If you can find a 290/290X, 390/390X for quite less it is 1060 performance.

I know. These prices suck!

I had a chance to buy a GTX 1070 but I hesitated for a second and lost it. The thing that made me hesitate was that it was an MSI card and I have no experience with MSI. I do know that EVGA is very good but no idea about MSI.

MSI warranty service is pretty good. I would take an MSI card over ASUS or Gigabyte.

It's doable, what screws you the most are graphics. You either have to go so low or so high they aren't interested for the miners. So, the 3GB and 4GB cards are mostly ok because they don't have enough memory for crypto mining shit and the top end like Vega 64 and 1080Ti because they are just too expensive to mine from the get go.

For gaming, if you can dig cheapest quad core that can be clocked ridiculously high and you'll be set. Core i3 8350K or Ryzen R3 1300X should do the job just fine on the cheap.

For graphic cards, it's a bit shit. GTX 1050Ti is an option for lite gaming, so are RX 560 if you can find one. Some GTX 1060 6GB have somewhat reasonable prices although a bit higher (at around 360-390€). They are obtainable here in Europe.

It sucks that it's not a clear cut pick and buy anymore, you have to really think things through to get it cheap. And expect paying for graphic card as much as you'll for a MOBO+RAM+CPU pack...
