Initially it was released for vulnerability, today it received an update for "next generation". If there are no other problems, it is the last version before the version that ensures compatibility with a new generation of processors.
It is certain that this refresh will be available very soon.

Those who don't follow tech will be surprised by this. This is expected to happen every year in the fall.

So once a year isnt often enough then for new skus?

Seen a few articles on this indicated its primarily bumped clock speeds and even higher heat/power.

So 3 generation chips on one slot? or is that description been generous on the generation terminology.

It's rare Intel does 3 in one socket. Probably because desktop Meteor lake was cancelled. Intel has to fill the void somehow

They will crown in gaming. Those 2-3 percent that mean nothing to us, but the impact is major in sales. For this reason, AMD also launched an immature and insufficiently tested product.
In addition, the production process is constantly being refined and I can get more from this manufacturing node. Probably higher frequencies at the same consumption. Possibly new instructions, we'll see.
The appearance of this BIOS update is a confirmation of a new release. So far we have only had rumours.

would be interesting to see if Intel comes out with a SKU with more cache for this refresh, my guess is no... but on the same side of that coin, no one saw 5800x3d coming before its launch. At least to my knowledge. @ir_cow thoughts on this?

Well they think they do, its funny that these companies think they must release something lol, they already have an existing product to sell.

Maybe we get a 7ghz 500w CPU which is super duper high up the v/f curve. :)

Doubt they'll be able to push 500w but 300-350w sure.... It seens board makers are gearing up for some pretty hefty vrm requirements at the very least with the Z790 refresh and a lot of the boards where already pretty robust.

They showed off X3D on 12 core cpu way before the the 5800X3D came out.

Knowing Intel, they're probably higher binned versions with a xx50 name and +100 MHz on the turbo clocks. Or maybe xx90 versions with a bit less cache than the model above sold only in China. Nothing interesting.

There would be three launches in less than a year. I think they will aim high, the crown in gaming. Bottom line, AMD has nothing below 7600 on AM5.

I've noticed GB added this line after few days I've downloaded the latest BIOS from May 31.
In my case it was F24b.

I expect something similar to 6xxx-7xxx Intel. Improved node, better graphics, better clocks, same general architecture.

Maybe. That pesky 7800X3D does no good to them. I still think it's just a new stepping with maybe +100 MHz, though. What else can they extract from an already overpowered and overvolted chip?

Same thing they did with 12th-13th gen, slightly improved node and other minor improvements that still added up.

The P cores stayed at 8. E cores were doubled in one SKU.

Rebranded ADL dies I'm ignoring.

Most of the performance in single core and gaming came from voltage/frequency improvements due to the improved node, and larger caches. Unknown if the improved memory controller is due to architecture tweaks or general maturing of the platform.

Intel seems like they're in a bad spot this year either release nothing and wait for Arrowlake to be ready or refresh Raptorlake

Meteorlake like I was expecting sounds like a bust for desktop.

They still improved the MT performance from the i5 through the i9 by a decent margin. More than I was expecting to begin with really. Hopefully this refresh gets a huge cache boost but I am not holding my breath.

i wish both intel and amd would stop releasing hardware like developers games in these days...
finish your product first and THEN sell it.
What product has Intel released that wasn't finished recently? Arc? I mean, it's expected their drivers have catching up to do with their first consumer dgpu.

Agreed. And enforce reasonable TDP levels out of the box! If one has good enough cooling and mobo, they can change it in the BIOS. Not the other way around.

The CPU divisions of Intel and AMD have much higher standards than most software developers, let alone game developers. As far as Raptor Lake refresh is concerned, I would love to be wrong, but I expect it to be a ho hum affair, like AMD's 3800XT a few years ago.
