Rare copy of The Legend of Zelda auction sets record with $870,000

An extremely rare copy of The Legend of Zelda for the Nintendo Entertainment System has netted a record $870,000.
That is converted to 816,000 euros. According to the auction house, it is 'the earliest print that still had a chance to appear'.

The example is not only rare, but is also rated with a 9 in terms of the condition it is in.
That is what Wata does, an organization that deals with collectible games. The motivation for why a point is dropped is not given.

With the amount, the record for what is paid for a video game has been broken again.
Just a few months ago, that record was raised from $156,000 to $660,000.
These were respectively copies of Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario Bros.

yes, i recall those upside down wright brothers plane stamps being worth a lot. But they are actually extremely rare. NES legend of Zelda isn't that rare.

To put it bluntly... One mans trash is another mans treasure.

You might be able to buy the game for $200 but it wont be in the same condition as the one being sold for $870,000 let alone the seller knowing if it was from the first print or not.

And judging how Nintendo is slowly running their franchises into the ground. older games like these will be worth even more money as time goes on.

If I had $870,000 burning a hole in my pocket, I know that I would much rather donate it to charity than spend it on this piece of overpriced garbage. In the very least, I would've spent it on something that has a use, like an expensive house or a supercar.

Lamo, why the actual fudge would that matter, game is old as hell, also why print date also matters, non of those reasons justify the stupid price, i can easily download it and emulate it on a Celeron IGPU or a budget android phone at 60fps for FREE!!!

Its nice to get a laugh at stuff like that once in a while, but when you think about them, Jesus, some people just cant get a hold on themselves, like 870 thousand for plastic wrapped nostalgia !!!!, the only reason i would spent that money for nostalgic reasons if it meant i would get to see a very beloved significant other that i would give everything in the world to see again, thats understandable, but someone totally woke up one day and said:" you know what, am feeling nostalgic, am totally gonna waste 870 grand on a game that even my calculator can emulate for free, yeah thats an important milestone for me"
