I have a customers laptop that previously over-heated and needs the GPU re-flowed what is the best method to do it I've heard that it can be baked in a oven not sure what method to use.

Since it's a customers, first check to see if re-flowing is really what it needs. Throwing someone else's laptop in the oven will probably just make you liable for damaging the laptop.

If its a customers and unless you

a. have Access and can use a proper reflow machine Give up and sub contract it out to a Qualified and trained professional.

b. with customers consent ( in writing just in case it goes south with the migrating Birds)
you can strip out Motherboard from laptop
mask off the Motherboard leaving Gpu Chip Exposed, preheat board then attempt to Reflow GPU Chip with a heat Gun
This is not Guaranteed to work and there is the possibility it will bork anyway
So its your Choice
personalty i would Sub contract the job out.

Edit or find a working board on Ebay/craigslist ect

I wouldn't throw it in an oven, is it a separate GPU card or is it built into the main board of the laptop?

I've talked to the customer and they actually don't care if It gets fixed they were more worried about their files
Dead or misbehaving GPU = Oven time. That's petty much norm around here and there.

Seems to be dead no display(Including a external display) checked ram, battery the usual parts that cause no display Model number is: Satellite T135D

Remove the 2 1/2" hard drive and sell them a inexpensive Caddy drive that solves the files problem

this

I wouldn't put a customers board in a oven. I'd only do it for myself because You could easily upset them further than you want and you lose your rep and money.

if it is worth it to the customer buy a board. also display issue can be resultant of the screen itself.

try using the FN and monitor key on the laptop too

If GPU is with mainboard, you cannot put that in Oven. It's going to melt stuff (USB connectors and such as well as your sanity).

Replace it.

old intel cooler, with copper part in the middle. cut out the copper part, put that in the oven on 200+ for 30-40 mins, then place it on top of the gpu. i did this to repair a xbox that had red ringed.

Like this. I used a older one with a thicker copper slug.

I don't like using hot air or putting the board in the oven. My method just heats up the GPU and nothing else, and I kinda figured, nothing ventured, nothing gained.
