Windows does not have a native way to read the HFS+ file system that Macs use. There are some 3rd party programs you can use to get Windows to read HFS+ but I don't know if any of them are free.

Edit:

HFS Explorer will allow you to read the drive and transfer files from it to another drive in the PC. So really only good if you need to get data off the Mac drive. However you won't be able to write files on the Mac drive. It is also free. http://www.catacombae.org/hfsx.html

Paragon HFS for Windows will allow you to mount and use the drive in Windows just like any other hard drive. However it is $20. http://www.paragon-software.com/home/hfs-windows/

If he only needs to read the data or copy (not write) can't he use HFSExplorer?
