Budget? I used the Westone Ultimate Ears 2 and they are awesome! Very expensive though. Sennheiser MX300 is not too bad.

I use some high-end Audio technicas and they work really well for my needs on the go. Smartest bet is on Shure though. They make wonderful earbuds.
http://www.shure.com/ProAudio/Products/PersonalMonitorSystems/us_pro_earphones_content

It's always best to try 'em first if you can. I've had headphones from Bose (the QuietComfort 2's -not buds), Sony ES, Audio Technica, Shure, and Sennheiser. They each have their own distinct qualities that make them stand out. As much as I like taking a reccomendation in regards to audio equipment, I might hear it differently than the person next to me -we aren't all looking for the same qualities.

great earphones... shure 310

while the shure 310's are expensive(300),(got mine a headphone.com (cheaper online I guess) they sound great and when fitted properly in your ear, block out almost all noiseds... (as good as or the same as earplugs)
i find that they are great for on the bus or, walking beside a busy road. (and would be great for noise lan comp's I suppose)

(shure also has the 210's which are cheaper, (but i have not used them) but they have the same foam ear piece so i guess that they would block the same amount of noise...

I have heard bad things about the Metro.fi 200, would say the CX300 is not too bad (used it) but don't expect wonders, never used wooden stuff so no idea, same goes to the Denon and based on the Altec Lansing reviews it seems everyone have their own opinion, good or bad. Vote goes to the Sennheiser.

I need some new ones myself. My Skullcandies finally choked from the pressure. For $20 they did good.

i know this seems a little off from the current recommendations but can i recommend skullcandy? i have a pair of their buds and their absolutely fantasic. best buds iv ever owned they carry bass incredably well and their just very clear all around. not to mention customer support is amazing i snagged one of my buds on something and it tore the wire a little so they told me to cut one off and send it in (envelope is all it took) no proof of purchase or anything and they mailed me a new set free of charge.

I need some new ones myself. My Skullcandies finally choked from the pressure. For $20 they did good.

didnt see this

If you want to get cheap ($40) earphones, the Razer Moray may do the trick!

For the love of god, do not get Skullcandies(ys?) They are just bad in every aspect, especially the treble, which sounds very, very muddy.

Edit: Also, from your list of recommendations, you rarely go wrong with Sennheiser.

The skull candies are great, but I abused mine. I think when my PC was overheating and the games made horribly loud noises is when they choked. I highly recommend them thou.

You probably know, but they make different levels of Skull Candies. I hear the higher level are equally as good with treble as bass.

it depends on what you like, if you want something cheap and you like to have more bass when your playing I would say the Vmoda bass freq's if you want something a little better I would say the CX300's or AKG324P's after that you really start paying for better sound.

But it all depends on what you like, as all headphones are tuned for different tastes per say.

as for skullcandies it depends on which ones you buy, I remember I had a pair of inked and they sounded, . . . . . decent, and I mean borderline decent but those things broke in under 2 months, then I got some full metal jackets and those do sound better and are more rugged but costed too much, never had the titans though.

Personally I would go for either the Sennheiser IE7 or the Head-Direct RE0. Both sound great, are very detailed. The RE0s have the edge when it comes to details whereas the IE7s are better sound stage and bass amount wise.

I think the RE0s are a little less efficient and higher impedance than the IE7s which is probably a good thing for using them with a headphone out (reduction of hiss).

I take back what I said about the Skull Candies. I got help on why all my earbuds are dying. SC's are great and I think I'm going back. Maybe FMJ.
