Hey, so I got tired of the graininess of my 1200p monitor in some titles and decided to upgrade.
Bought a Samsung LC27HG70QQUXEN, which seemed to be a dream, but had to return it because:
  • It was just too big for my desk
  • The curve felt more like a gimmick than anything else
  • The white uniformity was really bad, noticeably warm on the left side, cold on the right
  • The blacks were as bad as my old monitor, brighter colors did pop though
  • The stand just took up so much space!
So, my price range is 500 euro tops, size I think no larger than a 25", 1440p (or 4k? dunno), height and tilt adjustments. No color work will be done on it, but somewhat accurate colors are nice to have. It's a gaming/coding machine.
That's about it, I would like the best blacks possible, but that seems impossible without spending WAY too much.

For best blacks - definitely look for VA panels.

Best blacks require a VA panel, but I really don't know the prices in Latvia.

I got my eye on this for now: Benq PD2500Q.

Same as in Western Europe, maybe a bit pricier. Suggested models would be fine :)

From what I've read VA's have some kind of problems with response time? The Samsung is almost the only VA I can find with an OK price and size, others are like 32"+ o_O

If you want response time, then you go TN-Film. Make up your mind ;)

You can't, obviously.
TN - fastest refresh, crappy viewing angles
IPS - best colour accuracy, comes with trademark IPS glow
VA - best blacks, possibly slowest response times (though comparable to IPS)

OLED and QuantumDot can potentially be better, but they're not yet viable options for computer monitors.
The problem is €500 is where decent monitors usually start. I'd look for a Dell UltraSharp, even models from 4-5 years ago still hold up really well.

Edit: This would be en excellent choice imho: https://www.amazon.de/Dell-U2715H-M...d=1511455959&sr=8-1&keywords=dell+27"+monitor

25" WQHD would be better, but, there aren't that many good options, there never were actually, i'd look for a 27" although PPI will go down, not dramatically, but since we're still under 150 PPI here, increases or decreases even if slight will have a rather visible impact on sharpness, on the contrary, you'll most likely need to scale your Windows to use a 25" with a WQHD resolution.
But definitely easier to get really good 27" WQHD monitors rather than 25"

The sammy I bought was QuantumDot, I have to to say the blacks were nothing amazing.

That's a name I haven't heard in a while, sadly NEC's can only be bough online, didn't want to buy a monitor without seeing in in real life.

It's TN but this is the 1440p I have, seeing you got an nvidia card, G-Sync is nice:
https://tweakers.net/pricewatch/581879/dell-s2417dg-zwart/specificaties/
23.8"
Checked both of these and I have to say I was amazed by this TN, standing next to an IPS it didn't look worse! Bought the TN and I'm loving it, no more IPS glow for me :) Thanks for everyones time.

It's why I said it's not a viable alternative right now. QD is at its first iteration or so, there's still a lot of potential to be tapped.

QLED is just a cheap VA with rampant quality issues. Stay away.

Bear with me, Dutch site, but the model numbers don't differ
All available VA 1440p 16:9 - as you can see, this is a niche with capital N.

https://tweakers.net/categorie/344/...zMQHRZYo6SVbSSsbmxoVJsrQ5Q3NgUSdzCwNACKF5bCwA

With 500 to spare I don't think a 27 inch 1440p VA is doable right now. Gonna have to be IPS. If you don't game in a dim lit room, it'll be acceptable.

If you bump down to 24 inch 1080p, you'll have a lot more choice and also more quality in your panel. I keep looking around for a replacement 27 inch 1440p VA for my current Eizo FG2421 but there's just nothing to get that's not going to make me regret it. If you're not a fan of ultrawide and curved, choices are getting very limited.

Hah. Missed his post of having bought one
You've also missed his post saying 1200p is too little for his eyes, but who's counting? ;)
