Elite (that'll show my age). I would stay after school on the Apples with my cousin, the two of us swapping piloting and weapons in this universe, plotting trade routes, dodging pirates, and praying for no WitchSpace when we were stretching our fuel.
Freelancer I love the open, sandbox games.
The Elder Scrolls I played Arena for hours and hours, and followed those hours with more. Same with the entire series, except Daggerfail.
Warcraft I and II. I still have a pad of Blizzard Paper that came in one of these WCIII Frozen throne was ok, but I preferred the classics.
Mechwarrior, especially for me, the early ones, as I was in the Navy and spent many long hours in the Tech Library on the computer with buddies playing.
Speaking of hours spent in the Navy, (on Nintendo) we spent tons of hours on Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Genghis Khan, and Uncharted Waters from Koei.
Baldur's Gate I & II I still quote for my clients from time to time "Squeaky wheel gets the Kick!!"
Torchlight took so much time from me, and I was so disappointed with TL2, not really sure why... Both the games feel completely into "Looootzzz!!!!" and not much more. They took all the fun stuff from Diablo, and took the dark, stormy, quirky junk out. It's just kill, kill, kill, and loot loot loot. sockets, different classes, a pet that runs to town for you, fishing...
WoW... literally, Wow... I can't believe I almost forgot this... the fishing reminded me.. I spent more time fishing in this game, than I have played half the games on my computer right now. I met my fiancee here, several friends across the states and the world that I still keep in touch with (one was just here from Texas a few months ago, and planning a return early next year), and spent So Much Time here. It really did define the genre. Obviously, still does for many, but not myself. I took two days vacation to play in my first closed beta for this game....
Stalker : CoP is one of the few games I can honestly say I've beaten, repeatedly... I love playing through this every couple of years.. the decision to close the studio and not release the Stalker they'd been working on still chafes my a$$, and the upcoming MP version from the remnants of the studio just look like CoD on a radioactive map... I'm signed up for beta, but I also beta'd for the Kung Fu Panda multiplayer: doesn't mean it was good.
I saw someone mention Sid Meier's Pirates. Played that on the Apple and the PC, and NES, as well as Pirates: Gold when it came out. His Civilization series kept me going for hours as well.
Transport Tycoon this one surprised the hell outta me for how much time I spent on it.
Spent Years playing Tribes:2, and watched Tribes:Ascend slowly descend into oblivion with shame, dismay, and sorrow.... Met another few great multi-state friends in Tribes...
Lately, I've spent a great deal of time in Warframe, and finally (after ignoring multiple beta invites) popped up Firefall, and it's got the potential to keep me occupied until.....
Star Citizen. I fully expect this game to claim my soul, and if my fiancee hasn't left me by then, she probably will. Between that and Elite: Dangerous, I don't expect to have any substance left in my body to maintain life, and my soul will be sold off by the end of next year.
