Hi All,

I've been reading through many of the previous threads, and there's a lot of great opinions and information to be gleaned. I was wondering what you may suggest, because I'm having difficulty deciding whether to buy an EVGA 680 FTW 4GB (I'm concerned about VRAM in 2GB versions) or wait for the 7970 Ghz Edition?

I think the 7970 Ghz Edition may be more powerful and less money. What do you all think? Is anyone here planning on purchasing the revamped 7970 when it becomes available?

Thanks for your input!

Well. Both are great. Personally, I would pick up a Sapphire Toxic or Atomic HD7970 after that launches.

Benchmark Scores They're pretty good, nothing crazy.
save the $100, and OC a 670 t match the speed of the 7970Ghz, which is doable...

Then take the $100 and save it for something down the line... IMO its not worth to pay a $100 premium on a card that offers no visible advantage < that goes for both the 7970 and the 680.

7970 GHz edition is nothing but an overclocked 7970. You can find one of these for as low as 440$ and if you want more out if it, overclock. But if you play at 1080p I would suggest the GTX670, less expensive, same performance as stock 7970 and excellent driver support.

If you want a 7970 you may as well get a normal one and oc yourself or get a 670.

Just a question purely related to speed not cost or efficiency. Do you think the 680 FTW 4GB is faster than the 7970 OC'd or the Ghz Edition? I've search for days thru reviews for some comparison but couldn't find anything. Comparing the two cards. Only comparing reference 680's vs 7970 Ghz or 7970 OC.

Or does it depend more on what game and what resolution you're comparing? I'm guessing at higher res the 7970 will always take the cake.

u gonna play Battlefield 3 or Skyrim to actually use more than 2gb of memory? if not than go with the stock GTX 670 with 2gb memory.

Yes, I play Skyrim with many mods and I use a Multi-monitor setup. I don't play Battlefield as much. I haven't played any games for almost 2 months, because my VRAM on the 5970 is bad. I can't watch movies either. I really need a new card, but I want to make an informed decision. Like I said, I was all set to snag the 680 FTW 4GB, but not as certain now. The 7970 drivers seem to be improving and the Ghz Edition looks nice. I'm getting sick of waiting though, which is why I'm tempted to jump on the 680 FTW.

670 4gb is the best way to go.

no its not. if you only play at 1920 x 1200 or 1080 4gb is overkill and doesn't really benefit you all that much since there is a bit more memory latency in a 4gb card then a 2gb card.

I recommend going nvidia for better driver support and a superior control panel. Also, very importantly, the fans are quieter and less irritating.

I'd get a 680, because I don't like compromises, but a 670 gives you most of the performance (check out the TPU review) for a lot less money if you wanna save some cash.

Don't be worried about the wait for the GHz edition, just buy a custom 7970 and you have your GHz edition man :toast:

Get something like the 7970 Lightning or DCII, I recall that the 7970 Lightning has a stock core clock of 1070 MHz, 20 MHz above the GHz edition :)
