Lenovo and Dell both make some really good and some not-so-good laptops.

If you're looking for a great (ie, reliable) dell laptop. make sure it's a Latitude (preferrably the E6000 series). That's the most reliable line of laptops they make.

Shop on the small business page and google "dell coupons" before you buy anything.

If she's gone through multiple Lenovos then the Inspiron or Vostro from Dell are most likely going to give the same problems.

(With that number of problems, I'm assuming she doesn't have the Lenovo ThinkPads because they're usually on par with Dell's Latitude line).

http://configure.us.dell.com/dellst...odel_id=latitude-e6430s&c=us&l=en&s=bsd&cs=04

the E6430 has a 14" display (E6520 = 15"; E6320 = 13". See the pattern).

It looks expensive, but bear in mind that it starts with a 3 year NBD On-Site warranty. If this is really a work laptop, let's treat it like it's important that downtime be minimized.

Im a bit confused, "gone through" as in physically wearing them out? :wtf:

Theeldest make sense with the three year warranty imo. Should be worth it. Apple could work, but i dont think their warrantis are that good. You have to drop them of at a store iirc?

Apple warranty is really good in North America but for the love of god stay away from Apple

I haven't touched a Dell in a long time but my experience was awful with them. I believe that in the laptop segment, most brands make good and bad laptops. Even Lenovos are consistently awesome

It's against my religion.

But is it against hers? Or do you practice religious oppression?

I hate Apple too, but I'm getting 3 Apple products in anticipation of college. Why? Because I want instant support (I go to school in Manhattan so I can drop by the Apple store anytime) should my product fail on me. I don't want to have to put up with someone with a heavy accent and reading off a checklist of questions to ask, then have to ship my product across the country or out of the country for repair.

I also want to have iCloud so I can sync everything between all of my devices. I'm a student, I have enough to worry about and don't want to have to constantly fret over making sure my files are where I need them. Hell, I'm not even paying much more than what I would have for Windows/Android considering how much ultrabooks like the Asus Zenbook and premium tablets like the Asus TF700 cost.

I would imagine your girlfriend wanting the same since business and college are similar in many aspects.

PS - Have you tried the Macbook's trackpad? It blows the newest Zenbook's trackpad out of the water!

This is the downside with it. She would have to have an Apple Store nearby, and it's not sure it'll be done right away. On site would be better, as far as we know. If she's in a lot of backwaters and is constantly on the move no alternative works.

While their iPhone support is nice (oh it crashed once? Heres a new one) the MacBook and others arent as ridicously easy to get fixed... the techs suck ass. My sister has a problem with safari (weird bug with tabs) that guy spend 3 hours, apparently going through lots of shit. He says he cant fix it and he can do nothing for her since it is not a blatant hardware problem like bad RAM. She gets home and whines bout it to me. I look at it 2 seconds, decide to upgrade safari to the latest version and she never had that problem again. She went through a week frustrated ccuz she could only use 1 tab because the tech (actually 2 but the 2nd was only 30mins) is an idiot

And ofc the top of the line notebooks arent much cheaper than a MBA... but they are still cheaper and better. Now look at a 779$ ultrabook that has specs as good as the mba at a much cheaper price
