Just wondering is it safe to play a few games on a external hd and record gameplay footage using fraps?
really just curious are external hd's just as stable like internal ones/last as long.

I think there's no much difference of a internal or external HDD (if there are any...).

So, I think yes. You can use it to play, record games on it without problems.

yes of course, that will work fine. loading times will be slower though.

USB 3.0? Or SATA3? Regular sata is already way faster than usb 3.0

Well how come my usb 3.0 drive hook up to my pcie 3.0 speed card seems faster over my internal hd. it seems faster because things load up quicker and i can record better on it
this is my internal

Sure, USB 3.0 devices can be faster.

So, I think your USB 3.0 HDD achieve speeds faster than that SATA 3Gbps HDD. If connected to a USB 3.0 port, of course.

if y'all are talking about mechanical drives for desktop computer, then you can only max them out to 200MB/s with the best drives. Whereas the SATA 3Gbps has a maximum of 384MB/s and USB 3.0 is 5.0Gbps for a maximum of 640MB/s. Either way if you get an internal or external drive they will still run less than the available speed of the connection you plug it into. However if you want faster speeds look into SSD, SSHD and hard drive caching(e.g. smart respose).
