Christ, Rockstar Support is just full of sh*t. It's been 5 days now and they keep feeding my bullsh*t about "have you tried this" "we just released an update", despite me stating on day 1 that I want a full refund. Franz Kafka would be impressed by this.
They've already asked me "If I want a refund" three times now, each time I've clearly stated that I want a refund and have provided them my order number. It's a freaking refund request, what do you think I want?

I managed to get the game to run in DX12 for all of ten minutes, then it crashed to the desktop with no error message. It just froze and shutdown.
They clearly rushed this console port out without enough testing, in my opinion, but I'll crack on with Vulkan, which seems much more stable.

I think there has been an update to fix most of the issues most users are having. Also I posted a video tweak in the review thread for AMD GFX users to try out. Post your results if the tweak works for you.

Well, wouldn't it make more sense to wait until the Developer patches and polishes the game after release before buying it and since they've already made you wait a year for the PC release and it's in poor shape on release then wait a while longer and catch the game on sale after it's really finished?

Just a thought.

In a perfect world, a.k.a. anywhere else but on Rockstar store, this wouldn't matter since I'd be able to get a refund within few hours. Instead I have deal with automated responses that do everything they can to sway me away from refund.

Have you checked deadzones in settings? On ps4 I had to set both to 0 to actually improve controls.

Just started the game. So far so good as far as stability. Most settings are High, with a couple at Ultra. Running on Vulkan on 1440p. I’ll keep the group updated.

Oh, I still have old drivers from August too. :laugh:

I had a lot of crashes to desktop using DX12 but none using Vulkan with nVidia 441.12 drivers.
The game is really cool I almost did buy a PS4 when it was launched just for this game.
The Online isn't perfectly stable, I get connection erros sometimes and the firecamp often bugs : I have to switch the position but sometimes it's just never be settled until I choose another location. I thought it could be because there are too many players' camps nearby but if I have mine it's their camp that should be changed...I think it's just bugged ahah.
I tried everything on Ultra but it's not smooth at all in 1440p. Then tried the Guru3D review presets but not good enough when you aim like a crazy dog. Then I just restored the default presets with some ultra, a lot of high and a few of medium. The min FPS I had were 52 in a middle of a forest by night with multiple effects, the max was 80 and the average is 70+ and it's still gorgeous and immersive.

The optimisation is not perfect for now OK but look at all those graphic options, we are not forced to put everything ultra in 1440p+ to have fun and enjoy the landscapes, the nature and the...blood ?...I guess.

I’ll just update here what I also wrote in What are you playing:

4 hours in and I am very impressed with RDR2! I’ve got a fairly stable fps, fluctuating a bit when Ive bothered to notice between 49 and 70. Thing is, if I had no frame counter, it’s been completely unnoticeable. It’s running Vulkan @1440p.

No crashes at all either, once again validating my belief in old stable drivers, rather than newest game-ready ones. I’m playing with 431.60 from July 23rd. I bought directly from Rockstar, so I’m using their launcher only, as I do with all their games. This is another of my “keep it simple, Stupid, and it will work” philosophies. I never run one launcher through another.

Bug: Upon loading game save, all one can see is a blurry sky and a mouse cursor. I can hear Arthur Morgan walking around and if I hit escape I can hear the menu noise however it does not appear. Reloaded the game and the save file 5 times with the same result.
Fix: Load multiplayer/RDO and then load a different story mode game save.

I finally managed to get the game at Humble Bundle after PayPal payment errors at both Rockstar and Epic, only to find that I then had to link Humble to Epic and then Epic to Rockstar. No drama, but what a tangled web.
An enjoyable intro which sets out the storyline very nicely, once I'd got past the character menu. It's looking good on high settings and I'm a little surprised that there's no in-game FPS counter.
Anyway, just as in GTA V, I'm having difficulty remapping the keys, which can only be done by being in the game. I choose an alternate (A fwd Z back) and those then change other keys and on it goes ad infinitum, driving me nuts.
Escaping out doesn't save the changes because the conflicting keys have to be sorted. Surely there's a simpler way to achieve two key remaps.

About the GTA4 key remap is a common issue i have with so many game being left handed and like the arrow keys anyways. I learned long time ago to us a programmable keyboard which solved for issue for 99%, only the one percent being fallout due to the e key being a multi button.

GTAV though it is possible with a programmable keyboard, you just need to ignore the on screen props on what key needs to be pressed.

For keybind remap I've often used auto hotkey. Not sure how well it works with RDR2, some games will cause anticheat issue.
Here is a script I made for another game.

#MaxHotkeysPerInterval 500
$s::LShift
$w::space
$LShift::w
$space::s
Return
pause::Suspend

This script, just as example, swaps w with spacebar and s with left shift.

edit:
I keep getting the foggy load screen bug I detailed above, really starting to piss me off. Seems to be on more of my saves now. Don't know how many more times I can stand to listen to the shotgun blast on the game startup.

Did you try the integrity check from the Rockstar launcher ?
And without Windows Defender (or another Antivirus) real time protection ?

Edit : Also there is the Windows 10 protection against ransomware that can prevent the games to interact with the My Documents folder (there is Rockstar Games with your RDR2 .cfg and stuff in there) making the folder protected and can cause weird stuff I guess.

Doing the integrity check now.

I've mainly had it happen when loading out in the plains of "The Heartlands", there's supposed to be some graphical event to occur with blur and haze and the camera is supposed to focus and then pan away from Arthur, however what happens is it mostly freezes the game on the load except for the sound and the cursor.

I have gotten lucky where I load the save file and then it doesn't have that particular luck of the draw graphical event. I promptly moved Arthur to a new location, Valentine, and did a quest then resaved.

I also read online about save files being corrupted by the cloud so I disabled the cloud save and have been backing the folder up to another drive.

43h+ for me and I didn't have finished the chapter 2 ! I enjoy the online mode where stupid things happen, like your horse halting for whatever reasons making you fall and die...and laugh hard ! Wild animals tank hard and are very scary !
This is clearly not the same community as in GTA Online, people are mostly peaceful cowboys !

The first time I rode into Valentine, I lost control of my horse, ran over an innocent bystander outside the saloon killing him stone dead and ended up with the entire town after me.
I managed to evade the posse back on the trail, but they soon caught up with me and shot me dead with no mercy.
Damned horse. I should feed it more.

My first trip into Valentine had me go into the Gun shop. Still not having the firm grasp on the whole greeting gesture, I accidentally drew on him. A bystander came in and saw me, shot at me, so I shot the gun store owner and the other guy. Ran out the back and then the whole posse is looking for me in town. I hid on the roof for awhile and when I thought there was an opening I went down and whistled for my horse.! Big mistake! :roll:

What followed was a long winding chase through the countryside with me shooting at least 5 more but eventually I just rode till I got away. My bounty ended up being $230. I had to sneak to the post office a few days later and spend all my money on my bounty to pay it off. LOL.

Theres a hidden vault room with gangsters in it at the doc at Valentine. I tried multiple times to rob it without a bounty. The first time I exited with a bounty of $500. Restarted a few times, managed to get it down to 20. I robbed the cash register as the doc walked to the back room, threw a stick of dynamite in the room which killed the bandits plus opened the safe, quickly robbed the safe, the gun case, and the cash on the table then ran out the door. Funny enough it seemed like it could be possible to make unlimited money by killing oneself with the dynamite in the process and restarting it, bounty free.

Very weird, but interesting, issue with some processors when running RDR2:

EDIT: Seems to be mostly just 9700K on rare occasions.

I have that occasional stutter with the 8600K. Its not as bad as it used to be on the launch day game version. I don't have the qualifying condition that he discusses with high frame rate though, most of my frame rate is 60ish. In the in game benchmark I sometimes have 130 FPS peak but I don't think it hits that before stutter. I'd have to do game capture with a frame rate overlay to know fps during stutter though, I'm just guessing otherwise.

I grabbed that latest Nvidia driver 441.20 and installed it replacing my 441.12, started RDR2 and promptly got a BSOD related to NVLDDMKM.sys Never had a BSOD on this machine in the past 2 years since building it so I think I will be rolling back to 441.12.
