Stories about single-player gaming's death have been greatly exaggerated, over and over again. Every once in a while, a good, single-player focused game that only looks to tell a great story, in a great setting, comes along to set company's perceptions straight. This has happened over and over again in the market, but the most notable, recent examples must be The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Red Dead Redemption 2.

News has just surfaced, courtesy of Take Two, that the game has shipped in excess of 23 million copies since its launch back in October, when it set the entertainment's biggest opening weekend of all time. That means more than 7 million copies have been sold on a monthly basis since then. And this was all done without the help of our own platform of choice: PC. When the game finally does release for our rigs (and there's no sensible reason it wouldn't), we'll see how starved the market actually was for a good, single-player, story-focused game, in the day and age of always-on content.

Remember how long it took to get gta 5 into the hands of the master race? I have a feeling it's going to take a similar amount of time to get our hands on this title. :(

If it ever happens. RDR1 begs to differ... Then again, things can change.

Impressive numbers. I sure as hell hope it comes out to pc (the first game rdr game never came to pc).

I al ways like a good single player game also because i really dont have time for online gaming. And single player can for sure have a great story gta v, the witcher 3, and rdr 1 are games with in my opinions great single player story.

I am done with Rockstar treating PC as a second rate platform (while in reality it is the only first rate platform in existence), I will not by buying any more of their products, especially after how poorly the multiplayer for GTA 5 was made.

A lot of PC gamers also own a console. Rockstar is just staggering the releases in order to get gamers to buy it on console right away because gamers won't be patient and wait for a PC release and then they buy it a second time on PC when it finally gets released on PC.

Most people didnt understand yet that rockstar san diego has nothing to do with gta and they only released one game for pc in their history: MC3 one of the worst ports ever.

RDR2 is not coming for PC, but keep dreaming about it.

So, if RDR2 does come to PC, how willing are you to eat your own words?

The work has been done to port the engine used in GTA V, the same engine used to make RDR2. R* likely is just waiting for the consoles to finish selling before releasing the PC version to get double sales.

Things are different now, you can't use past history as reference in every case.
Modern consoles have the same architecture as PC, so porting shouldn't be much of a problem.

For anyone saying it won't get a PC release, it will. Mark my words. Seriously, when the PC version is announced (which will likely be mid- to late-2019), come back and leave a comment here. Years ago, I remember reading a few articles that investigated why the original Red Dead Redemption never saw a PC release. There weren't a lot of hard answers, and much of it was speculation, but the reasons were mostly narrowed down to personnel and development issues and costs. Since Rockstar seems to have resolved those concerns, as evidenced by the PC version of GTA V, I don't see how people can continue to doubt that RDR2 won't get a PC release. Plus, as others have noted, current generation consoles are x86-based, which makes development far easier.

RDR2 will come to PC eventually. This is just a repeat of the same thing after GTA V released on console. Rockstar wouldn't say whether or not that game would come to PC creating doubt that it ever would. In addition to that a lot of gamers didn't want to wait for who knew how long for it to come to PC so they went ahead and bought it on console. When GTA V did get released on PC they bought it a second time for the superior gaming experience.

The reason why I don't lend a lot of credence to the RDR1 never came to PC argument is because you have to look at the times to understand Rockstars decision. They have said that the reason was that it didn't make sense from a financial point of view to port it to PC. It was 2010 and several Developers were still thinking that PC gaming was dying out and consoles were the future of gaming and most of us were just pirates anyway. For example Ubisoft's CEO said in an interview in 2012 that 95% of PC gamers were pirates. Now Ubisoft makes hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue from PC gamers every year.

Fast forward to today and we see the PC platform as number 1 in revenue of the 3 major platforms for several years now. No one is saying that PC gaming is dying out anymore and Developers are even porting what were previously console exclusives to PC.

What would truly be interesting is to know how many of these 23 million sales are gamers that have a console and a gaming PC and would have certainly bought it on PC instead of console had they been given the opportunity to do so and never bought it on console to begin with.

Not that I really wanted RDR2 on PC that bad, but I wouldn't rule out the possibility of PC version of RDR2. Unless Take Two officially denies that.
Some people claimed the same thing about Ryu Ga Gotoku/Yakuza series, Catherine and Bayonetta would never come to PC and look what we have now.

I don't see why they wouldn't. Clearly, it would mean big sales... even if it's just a "shitty console port".
Take Two is a for-profit company, and judging by how GTAV is still on Steam's Most Played Games long after its release date, I'm sure it's enough to convince them to release RDR2 on PC.
GTA online was and is still a success. I personally think they wouldn't want to miss the chance for extra revenue from RDR2 online.

people considering to switch to consoles just because a single game hasn't been released to PC should grow a spine. There have been so many console games I wanted to play it's heartbreaking, but I never even considered contributing to the death of PC gaming.

My 570 for £150 would like a word with you. :) It is 95% of Xbox one X performance and fluid max details FHD gaming. At similar settings to Xbox one X it can do 4k too. Just because the high end has become overpriced mess, doesn't mean you can't still get a better experience on pc without breaking the bank.

Probably would have sold 35 million copies with the help of a PC version. Just saying...
