I don't know if there's already a similar thread on Techpowerup for this but I thought it'd be a great idea to have a Reference thread for people looking for specfic types of case fans in a stickied thread.

Here are the 4 types of Case Fans I'm looking into at the moment and I bet Lots of people care about this too for good air flow and cooling:

  • Intake Fans
  • Exhaust Fans
  • Silent Fans
  • Direcitonnal fans
  1. As of now, I'm looking for the very best (price is not a problem) fans for each category. In fact, I need a very good 140mm fan to shoot cool air onto my GTX cards in SLI (that is a fan facing the front of the graphics cards inside the case, NOT on the side of the graphics card as I have a MODDED CASE with a WINDOW on the side (no room for side fan because of that)
  2. I'm also looking for the very best 140mm INTAKE fan for the front of my PC case (there are a few small objects obstructing the path of the air being pulled in from the 140mm fan at that location which is why I think something capable of pushing the cool air into the case past the cables that are in the way (few of em) is important
  3. I'm also looking for 2x 120mm INTAKE fans (case fans) to pull in cool air. I need these 2 to be "not so direcitonnal" they just need to be very good at spreading cool air efficiently inside the case (in a wide pattern)
feel free to give me some fan suggestions, price is not a problem. If you guys agree a stickied CASE FAN thread could be interesting, I guess a "case fan specialist" on this forum could start it and point everybody to it for future reference.

EDIT:

Here, to help you guys advise me even better. Nothing better than pictures:

I specifically need to change the 2x 120mm intake fans at the bottom right and the 140mm extra cooling fan for the GPUs in sli. I also want to know your advice on the aerocool deadsilence 140mm fan I have at the front. I read somewhere it's better to have High Static pressure fans for radiators (at the top of my 240mm radiator I have 2x CORSAIR blue led AP 140mm fans) If I got it right, I should have bought 2x SP models instead of APs.

I'd also like to know whether the orientation of my fans is good. (as in should I change from exhaust to intake or vice versa)

Anyhow. This should prove to be an interesting thread

For directional fans I don't think you can beat Silverstone's Air Penetrator fans. The unique grill design does some physics sorcery to concentrate the airflow into a narrow corridor. Otherwise for normal fans I'd recommend Noctua's A-series (and older P-series) and Phantek's f140hp/ts and f120s.

My vote goes to the NF-A14 for the 140mm. Problem with the "very best" fan is that it's going to be some OEM fan that moves insane amounts of air but also produces insane amounts of noise.

NF-A14 for the 140mm, and I also suggest the San Ace 120mm. There's a pretty cheap box of 20/30 on Amazon somewhere. The AX760 uses a 120mm San Ace, I believe. However, I think Sanyo states that they must be connected to a controller, otherwise it will bust your motherboard.

Silverstone's air penetrators are pretty beast.
