hey what's up.

I have a laptop with this gpu and was wondering if anyone has been able to modify the bios that is in it or flash it to a higher model

i used to flash and modify bioses all the time about 15 years ago but am totally out of the game now lol so I'm kind of back to hold my hand stage haha. I really don't even know much about this card or how it stacks up. I just like messing with stuff and would love to flash in a permanent over clock or flash to a higher model or both.

btw are there any shader cores or whatever that this might unlock?

Noooot worth the trouble. Overclock if you can and call it good.

you want your laptop 2070 to become 2080s at least only with a bios flash? Just nope!

the full TU106 chip contains 2304 shaders, nothing to unlock even if it could. flashing permanent clocks also doesn't exist for this series. You can undervolt it with overclock and get higher clocks +100 with -20% less power for less noise. and set that as a shortcut in startup for example.

BIOS cross-flashing on desktop is risky.

BIOS cross-flashing on laptop is almost guaranteed bricking, because the laptop GPU BIOS is tied into the laptop ordinary BIOS.

Read my sig, and leave well alone.

Benchmark Scores Faster than yours... I'd bet on it. :)
Surprised there is a full blown 2070 in there honestly.

You cant flash to a higher card with nvidia. Not worth it on a laptop anyway with thermals.

as for thermals/power constraints in a desktop vs laptop, with use of gpu boost 3.0, performance matches ie a laptops 0.85v limit all the way up to desktops varient of 1.1volts.? for example, even though I see 75-80C while playing COD:MW. Im well below the 95C limit, and im sure that at 1.0v it would jump up as far as performance would be allowed. IF the bios and benchmarking tools allowed it, You could try to backup your laptops rtx 2070 bios, then go in with nvtools or w/e and change those values and then crossflash. That is safer than flashing to a desktop variant. If for some reason the laptop doesnt allow to extract the orginal bios, then its not worth bricking the system. If your system doesnt support eluktoboost, which allows 50 watts more draw to the gpu, then a regular rtx 2070 laptop probably wouldnt even support nominal power draw. The max 17/15/el2/mag/mech has eluktroboost and is supposed to raise that limit through hardware modification from the universal 0.85v to something like 0.95-1.0v, which supports 1850-1950Mhz.BUTt as with whats been mentioned, improvements in performance are negligible..
the laptop 2070 losing efficiency at higher clocks is because the voltage is regulated TO A particular freq. A laptop rtx 2070 is locked at 0.85v and cannot consistently raise higher, due to hardware ie power brick&efficiency or software characteristics bios and gpu boost 3.0. Stability sails through 1600 and hovers around 1800mhz, depending on cpu or gpu intensiveness of whichever game. Also Lowering power constraints on the cpu you will see an uplift in gpu overhead. I dont have an answer if flashing to a desktop tu106 rtx2070 would raise the curve or brick the system.
the best you can do is raise the cpu freq, or lower, to a dependable speed and then raise rtx 2070 spec. . The 230watt source limits in this fashion only support so much. Its interesting to see if your laptop 2070 bios crossflash allows for higher voltage. Far as I can tell, eluktroboost, is mostly its capable of showing, and not doing with stock bios, is fluctuating voltages to unstable levels and then using gpu boost to back it down to 0.85 from 1.0+ Volts

ive tried aftyerburner, precision x, and asus gpu tweak II is the best of the 3.

the difference between stock laptop rtx 2070 and desktop 2070 is around 40fps. You can overclock and get an extra 10 fps, but without raising the 0.85v limit, any more isnt possible. ive tried extracting bios with gpu-z and successfully saved it. Nibitor is so out of date I cannot open the bios. Is there any newer nvidia bio editing tools available?

i use a desktop for gaming, laptops do not have the power to handle the demands of cards my my RTX 2080 which is very powerful

flashing is the only option at this point. The GeForce RTX 2070 Mobile retains the same 115W TDP. The normal rtx 2070 is 175 watts. without eluktroboost there is no other way to gain more power draw to come close to 175.
