As the title says, i want to remove the cooler from my card. The card is a reference Nvidia design, that has an Accelero Xtreme 3 attached.
Now my problem is that the VRM and VRAM heatsinks are attached with the supplied thermal glue.

How can i safely remove them ? is there a solvent i could try ? heat might damage the card i think, force is out of the question :B
Thanks.

I don't think just pulling the heatsinks will damage anything.

As far as heat goes , if you use the low setting on a hair dryer and not keep it in just one spot for more than a couple of seconds there is absolutely no way you can damage anything.

Use isopropyl alcohol or just try to twist the heatsinks around. Arctic's thermal adhesive isn't that strong.

did you assembled it and glue it? or may be the regular thermal pads that most video cards uses?
thermal glue is hard to disolve or take apart.... try a heat-gun, pointed to the object you want to take apart and also water, when tryin to melt the glue apply a few Drops to help the procces, also works with human sweat believe it or not,

I believe you can freeze the thermal glue. After it is cold, twist it gently. Be very careful.

Watch out for condensation forming after that.

Better of just leaving as it is lol. Whole reason i stopped bothering with AC as they got cheap with the extra heat sinks.

Agreed, it's better to just leave them on than risk damaging your card. Why are you removing it? The AX3 is an excellent heatsink.
Regardless, removal of heatsinks that have been glued on is very risky and trying such can easily cause damage.

I would want to sell the card and keep the Accelero for a reference GTX1080/1080Ti. The thing with the hot air gun and scalpel is not what i would want to try, i might sell the card as is.
Thanks all.

Well the cooling efficency is great, i get 58-60ºC with 100% GPU load in Warhammer 2, and i can't hear the fans spinning.

Ah ok. Yeah sell it with the AX3 included rather than risk the damage.

The AX3 is still being made AFAIK. You can even get the "extras" kit.

The AX4 would be a better value.

Although, given the size and TDP of the 1080/1080ti, the Twin Turbo 3 might be a better fit. The cooling capacity is 250watts. Unless you plan to do extreme OCing, it might serve you well.
