I used that method when I dropped a S939 cpu & boogered up a few pins. It worked like a charm.

i used the same thing but not using credit card coz i havent any

I unbent several pins on a used 1156 board I purchased here a while back, but that took a super small flat bladed screw driver and a magnifying glass, and I just kind of eased each pin back into alignment. I purchased a cheap watch repair kit from Harbor Freight for like $10 or so, it came with all I needed and more and saved me from a loss, plus only needing use every great once in a while cheap tools do just fine. Similar to how I've straightened 775 pin sockets but I didn't need a magnifying glass. I never did deal with any bent pin S939 or 478's on my own rigs.

I used a .5mm mechanical pencil tip to work the pins on my current Phenom 550 back into place.

A helpful tip

When trying to get the pins back find something that is the same thickness as the pins are spaced apart. No thicker and no thinner If you can help it.
I had a bent pin mess when the cpu didn't want to let go from the heatsink and it came out attached with the locking arm still in the locked pos. I had a few bent pins that took a bit to get it fixed.
