System Name One does not simply have enough cash for INTEL
Processor Athlon II 450 3.8ghz
Motherboard Gigabyte 990FX-UD3
Cooling Cooler Master 212+
Memory 4x4gb Corsair DDR3
Video Card(s) 2x 5830 Sapphire 950c/1150m CF
Storage 2x Seagate 500GB Raid0 + Samsung 1TB
Display(s) BenQ G2220HDA
Case Xigmatek ASGARD PRO
Power Supply SeasonicX 750w
Software W7 x64 Ultimate
Well recently my best friend pc died, his house got flooded and took out most of his hardware, only thing the actually survive is the ram, he got this in 2007 but still was powerfull enough to game everything at 1600x1200

his rig consited of:

E6700 OC to 3.2
Asus Striker
2 8800GTX SLI
8 gb of ocz blades 1150
Corsair TX 750w

He spentt over $2500 on this rig, but now his budget is about 700$ and thats the absolute tops for him right now, I'm thinking he should walk the amd road.

and I proposed this to him.

Athlon II x3 440 80$
Asus M4N75TD 115$
2x2gb GSkill Trident 1600 100$
Asus 460 GTX 768 210$ some sli action later...
XFX 750w PSU 140$
250gb HDD 40$

Total 690$ all from a local store in Honduras.

My question is will this rig actually perfom better than his old rig in gaming?
Do you have a better build? if so please post it just watch the buget $700 tight.

You can use newegg as a reference it's usually 10 to 15$ more expensive here.

Only thing is he just doesn't like Ati, and actually had hard time convincing him to go amd, so I've given up on the topic, he is as irrational as a apple fanboy on this:banghead:

Thanks guy's:rockout::rockout::toast:

Looks like a good budget rig. The rig will perform as well, if not better than the old one for gaming. Much better once it's SLI.

460 performs around gtx 275 lvls and 2 8800gtxs if overclocked will rival a 280 its basically a side grade currently tell him to save some more money and if possible sell what he has and then look to upgrading granted the new machine will run cooler better and be more reliable with new features. but still id say sell what he has or build a minimal rig to keep running and then sell everything and then build the new rig most ppl will say ill sli later but they wont lol it never materializes

Woudlnt really call it a sidegrade. Just a more power efficient pc. Once sli kicks in he will be loving it even more.

true SLI will make the rig worth while for sure but till then its basically a side grade which is why i say if he can use a crappy machine for a bit sell what he has and then go balls out with what hes got to spend otherwise in game aka without fraps running he wont see a difference except for the new features supported in some newer games 460 is beast tho overclocks like a champ just if hes gonna upgrade he might as well get a Phenom II quad and just grab some 1333mhz cl 7 ram lower latency is better then higher speeds for amd for the most part

That's the thing he doesn't have a "crappy" rig. I think they did well EXCEPT for the XFX power supply.

then find a crappy one is what im saying P4 boxes suck but hey internet is the internet and it will do daily crap till he can sell most of it and then do a full on balls to the wall upgrade :)

the stuff he has should fetch a good amount of coin to put towards the $700 id wager it would boost the budget to over $1000 easy and that gives alot more room if you get where my logic is at

better rig from the get go is worth a few weeks using a shitty system as a hold over

HE dosnt have a computer to sell or to upgrade!!!!- read his post- everything in that entire rig except the ram works. he cant sell to make enough money for even a edgy 250 dollar pc :shadedshu

I want you to try selling water damage parts- for 40 dollars a piece- if you pull it off i bow down to you crazy eyes!

So Tell him that rig right there would be great- Srsly a GTX 460 will overclock to the sky.

Runs great from what a hear- should blast a 275 like nothing.

It cant be a side grade if the computer he has right now is a pair of ram stick

I actually though, just clean them a bit and do some RMA, but the parts look terrible especially the PSU and mobo, I'm actually surprised the ram still works:roll::roll:

Kidding aside, a flood/tsunami/earthquake/etc are Acts of God and are rarely covered by any warranty. Like mentioned though you can lie, etc (which is on you and your beliefs) but water damage is one of the easiest things to spot/detect when it comes to electronics and damage :ohwell:

Can overclock the 460 himself, and with EVGA giving away that "free boost" might as well get him a non open box board out of it too ;) Less chance of it not coming with an SLI bridge xD
