I used to really like the general nonsense section, but I'm not interested in registering on another forum just for that.

The last time I checked, you don't need to register. You just need to log in with the same username and password.

Sneeky is right, The W1Z and the mods have tolerated more mishaps than I have seen any other forum do also they go beyond that and create a equal style forum just for whatever nonsense you have. GN was created for off topic TPU's to hang out and discuss whatever. It need to be used the way W1Z wanted it.

The reason GN is deserted is because trolls need larger audience; trolls need the reactions to fuel themselves.
Another reason is that there are heavily politics debates. Talking politics is like talking to a wall, so people tend to leave.

Uhmm... Has it changed recently? I needed to create my account at GN....
I don't think TPU and GN are member linked...

Don't let the trolls touch you in wrong spots?

Don't go to political threads?

Things are avoidable. This is why GN was created so people could have their discussions about anything (within reason).

Yeah? My memories are blurry. I started to go there since 2011.

I am a troll myself in other forums. So, I know what hits trolls. That is all.

Not joining political threads on GN totally defeats the purpose of going to GN. You don't go to GN to avoid stuff. You go there to lit fire on the place, lol.

In the original closing clubs thread it was suggested to make a public request in support of clubs so here we are. TPU is my favorite tech-related community and as such seeing a decision like the removal of clubs that fall outside of the realm of tech is rather baffling. Finding good communities to participate in is hard and harder still is creating a good community where people want to interact outside of the main subject matter. Sharing interests with like-minded people is one of the reasons I came to TPU and I imagine it is the same for many other members. What makes this community great is that it lives beyond technology, the community genuinely cares about helping others and will go out of their way to do so in many cases. The community is what makes TPU what it is so why hamper the ability to interact with others who share interests outside of technology, clubs do not hurt anyone and they provide a way to socialize with other members in what is in many cases a relaxing and positive atmosphere. The argument has been made that this is what general nonsense is for but with it being moved off-site it is effectively dead and far less accessible to new members who may not even know it exists. I believe that the response to closing clubs that "do not meet the guidelines" seems to signal that it may be time to re-examine those guidelines and grow the community aspect of TPU which is where I believe the site already flourishes compared to others in the same style. If clubs could be separated from the forums and not count toward post count or trending topics then what would the harm be in allowing TPU to be a place for techies to socialize without it only being confined to technology.

Edit: Also to the mods I have seen it said that there is still discussion being had about the issue, perhaps this could be a place to interact with the community and to show that at least people are being heard even if that doesn't influence the overall decision.

Please refrain from actively attempting to derail this thread, if you have anything to contribute for or against this proposal please go ahead but this is not the place for jokes about the clubs that were removed or why it shouldn't matter what we want.

Edit: TL/DR Allow clubs unrelated to technology as I feel it enriches the community but keep them out of post counts, the activity feed and maybe appoint someone to keep them in order?
I'm defending TPU staff here but, honestly off topic clubs are not fair to them AND people like me and brandonh64 are the reason there are no more clubs. Just look up the Battlefield 3 Clubhouse as an example. The fun banter that happens in clubs tends to spill over into other topics. It doubles the work for the mods. Mods that don't get paid. If they want the work they would get a real job.

Remember whos saying this too. The Banstick Dummy.

So then we should just stop what we have been working on?

Careful what you ask for here! We have been going above and beyond behind the scenes to make life easier and appreciated by members. If you all would rather just spout off and be condescending, because we are not making it happen on your timeline, we can just stop trying to please you all. Less work for us!
I appreciate the efforts you guys are making behind the scenes and I hope some of what I suggested makes it into the final product, as it were. :)

Sneeky speaks the truth and I am to blame partially for holding the process up as I said I would do something within 24 hours, 36 hours ago  but we are not too far away.

They are not linked. Back in the vBulletin days you would get a popup when you first visit GN saying "TPU Account detected, would you like to auto-register here"

That's why I said we, the members, have to keep it in line.

If we're allowed to have off topic clubs again, and threads continue to be derailed and all the other nonsense that led to the mods setting things to the way they are now, well, I won't have much to say about it at that time. If it happens again, then it is what it is.

As long as there are people like me and the Great MailDude, you can always expect us to derail threads.
