Dark reader works like charm, looks just like I'd like TPU to look like. Thanks for the tip! :)

Hi, I'm a bit late to this party though I can provide some help here.

First I've developed an entire web platform for building websites from scratch so yeah, I can help both users and the TPU team.

For users in a big rush not to be blinded you'll need the Stylus extension. I only use Waterfox (all other browsers have basically gotten their GUIs completely trashed) so I don't know about browser compatibility. Then you'll want to use this theme as a basis.

If for some reason it won't work then click on the extension's button and add the following code for the website:

.site-header, #page, .sidebar, body, .flickity-viewport, .pinned-news__item, select#tz {background: #212121 !important;}
.gpudb-details .content section.details > div {background-color: #222;}

For any TPU webmasters implementing dark mode (for browsers that support it) isn't difficult though it can be tricky. My site's theme supports it and I've written a blog article for how to combine CSS variables with dark mode. This could be achieved fairly easily. Anyone with CSS experience could also make the TPU webmaster's lives easier by creating some code for them. I hope this helps.

Samsung Internet, Naver Whale Browser, Dolphin Browser,
and Firefox for Android, with extension.

My favorite FF extension for this is Dark Reader. Honestly not sure why it isn't the most popular, as it's the only one that doesn't screw-up color schemes, mess with images, or cause different elements to bug-out/vanish. It only inverts blacks and whites, without messing with colors. You can adjust it to your liking. I don't think I've found a website that it doesn't work perfectly with. Always looks great. Clean and natural. Just a dark version of your favorite websites. You can even configure it by site as you're browsing them.

Sorry for dredging up this old thread but it seems like a logical place to discuss this further. I just decided to use Dark Reader and generally, I like it a lot.

HOWEVER, I noticed when looking at the extension "Details", it says,
Permissions
  • Read your browsing history

There is no apparent way to disable that. I don't understand why it needs to read our browsing "history" in the first place. And second, I am concerned their snooping about our history can't be disabled. And third, does anyone see their privacy policy?

Their FAQ says it asks for permission to read website data and I'm okay with that - assuming it is the current website we are viewing. But again, our browsing "history"? Why?

The FAQ also says it does not collect any data or send it anywhere - but then why look at our history? What's it doing with that information?

Almost 90% support, and yet no such option has been added so far. This thread is 6 years old. Please add dark theme, even if it's lazily done it's better than eye-burning white theme.

That is because one is not needed. Look up the extension "Dark Reader" in FireFox or any variant of Chrome that has access to the Chrome store... Install, configue to your liking, enjoy!

So, is this still planned?
Also, please don't say "it's not needed because you can add x extension", if i wanted to bloat my browser for a feature that's pretty common nowadays, i would be asking for recomendations for extensions instead

Requires a lot of skill with math. As a rule, to be an effective programmer, you need to be able to "think" math.

So, is this still planned?

If W1zzard was serious about it, he would have done it by now. To be far, I believe there is a plugin for the Xenforo forum software, but don't know what that would do for the rest of the site. Until then, browser extensions are your option, and there are many that work well without bloating out the browser. As stated above, Darkreader is a good one. Another for Firefox is "Dark Background and Light Text"(seriously, that's it's name) which is very simple, lean and clean.

its funny because I am just the opposite, I have a weird eye condition where if I view dark websites, I get the image of text lines "burned" into my vision, and it takes about 2 minutes to blink it away, but only about ten seconds for it to actually burn in, its very strange and happens on any device, phone, steam deck, pc. so I run everything in light mode and forcibly turn off dark mode on my phone.

eye doctors have never been able to explain it to me as to why. guess im just weird as fuck lol

I have this exact problem and no idea what causes it. I am near-sighted quite significantly, are you?

You both have a persistence of vision effect going on where the cones and rods in your eye stay stimulated for periods of time longer than they are supposed to. I used to have this until a doctor told me I was having a Vitamin A & D problem. This no longer exist for me as a change in diet and a bit more time spent in the Sun(15minutes per day) helped greatly.

I used to be, I had LASIK. I had this problem before LASIK though.

My vitamin D used to be low, but I read 35 ng/l last blood draw for Vit D. I used to 16 ng/l though. My goal has always been 40-50 range, but even with supplement and sun it has been hard to achieve.

Not sure what my Vitamin A is, I will look into it.

I live in the place where it's MONTHS without sunshine whatsoever. Clouds just clog the hell outta sky. But clear days can happen too of course. The funniest part is I got enough A and D and my vision has never been bad but I still have the same effect as @Space Lynx and @tpa-pr do. Yet, it's not as straightforward because I experience this effect considerably rarely, about 1 time a month I guess... Never visited a doc on this problem so I don't know what it is but definitely not vitamins. They are all intact.

I'm just curious does anyone use pcpartpicker in dark mode? The colour contrast or the thick bright white/yellow fonts are distracting so i use the default setting.

Dark mode would be nice on any webpage providing other colours are subtle and equally complimenting without having to make adjustments at the display OSD level

They are all intact.

if you ever figure it out, or if someone in the future reads this and figures out the cause of this or multiple causes - PM me, I'd love for it to be fixed. my only other guess would be a high inflamattion based diet, and need to eat more non-inflammatory based foods. dairy based foods for example cause inflammation, I have been trying to go off dairy, but it hasn't been easy.

Not sure what my Vitamin A is, I will look into it.
Vitamin A supplements are inexpensive and very effective. Most people are deficient and don't know it. If you have a Costco in your area(or you can buy online), they sell an excellent set of multivitamins that has made my life SOOO much better and easier.
These are the ones I'm talking about.
One each per day and within a month I was feeling and seeing much better!

I'd love for it to be fixed.
See above. You posted that comment as I was copying the links.

Of course but I can't guarantee you we share the same reason. I got 9 concussions in the past and this might be the cause. I don't actually remember how it was like 7+ years ago when I had less than nine counts of brain damage.
And the causes difference is even more likely since you always get this effect whilst I only white my eyes out for a dozen minutes a month.

But I will keep you posted anyway. Now it's your turn to pray because my memory can't be trusted and I can forget about your request lol.
