So here's the deal, I have a laptop (inspiron 2200) that has gotten a virus(es) on it and has changed the password on the Administrator account.

Here is what I have tried.
CAD @ user selection
Screen Saver hack
Ubuntu (freezes before anything works...Think this is mainly a hardware malfunction)

There are multiple programs out there, but they all say if the files are EFS encrypted that it will make the files unreadable. I would just access the needed files from the guest account (which i am on now) but it reads the Document folder as locked.
I do not have a windows XP disk either.
So I'm wondering how I can recover those files so i can reinstall XP.

Have you tried to boot into safe mode? Maybe kill the virus or restore point?

Well you could run a windows mini boot disc and edit the registry by hand.

If it's locking up, check the drive and ram, make sure the heatsinks are clear and fan's are kicking on.

This doesn't make much sense...

But pulling files is easy to anyone who really has any kinda idea about windows and security of folders and permissions.

Haha. Okay.
Well if anyone can help let me know.
How would I go about making a mini xp disk?
If i was really trying to access these files I would just get a XP disk. But I don't have the resources right now to get one lol.

If you have a computer with xp pro or vista, you can simply plug the hard drive into another computer and change the permissions on the folders you need to get into.

Yeah, I realized just now how bad that sounded.
It's not that I can't have a windows XP disk, it's just i'm too lazy to find it. I ended up installing a livecd program and used that to reset the password.

Try puupy linux, it should work.
You should also disable HPET support in ACPI setting(power settings) of your mother board.
