I'm not going to spoil anything for anyone who has not played, but does anyone besides me think that 5 was more like gears of war? i mean i liked the game, but i just played through about 3 hours of RE 4, and man i missed this game, as much as it wasn't like 1,2,3,CV, etc. it was still creepy and had the resident evil style vibe.

I think capcom messed up with 5 in the sense of Resident evil, it didn't feel like like resident evil and it was like an action movie..I know they said 6 will be a reboot but i hope it's a reboot in the right direction, or you may see Marcus from Gears as the main character.:nutkick:

NOW this is no flamebait, i just want to know your opinions and it won't be argued (unless you have only played 5, than please don't say anything. this is a topic for avid resident evil fans since the early years)

Not really, I really enjoyed it. I played Co-op with my brother through the whole game on Veteran.

I haven't played 1 - 4, so I have nothing really to compare it too, but I though it was great.

Edit: I also have heard of people complaining about not being able to move when aiming... but I kinda liked that. It made the game different.

yeah if you get a chance play 4 at least (cause its a similar camera and style to 5) i think 5 is great, but it isn't great if you consider it part of the RE franchise

I think 5 was a let down. I think Dead Space felt more like a RE game than RE5 did. RE2 and Nemesis are still the best in my opinion.

Oh, I should also add it was not like GoW to me. GoW has solid controls and mechanics, RE5 was a broken GoW at best.

Yeah 4 was alright, moving away from zombies was questionable, new controls were welcomed.

Now that I think about it, I did think of GoW when I was suddenly using the Hammer in RE5.

For me it wasn't a letdown because I had a friend to play it with. I enjoyed the action, but it was a tad fast paced. I tried it on single player and I hated it.

thats the thing it wasn't scary not even one bit...it was a action game not survival horror (what genre the RE series is suppose to be...) Hell even 4 was survival horror, and zombies weren't even involved

I got it for 360 and think it was a letdown, the game is really focused on multiplayer gameplay, without 2 people playing it gets boring, i mean its a good game, but you need 2 people to play.

I enjoyed going through the Game in CoOp and as such it was a good Action-game. However I tried 5-6 times starting a solo-campaign and it was just so unmotivating and depressing that I stopped half way through the first stage. Seriously, this game misses some of the aspects that made RE great; were is the Typewriter? What's with this annoying super small inventory? Where is the Magical Box I can put stuff in to free my castrated inventoryspace? Were the heck are my goddamn riddles?! And most of all: WTF happened to atmosphere?!

Serioulsy, it was a good game with top-notch cinematics and great action. But if it was a "real" Resident Evil or at least one who isn't missing those essential RE-characteristics (RE4!) it would have been an AWESOME game. I haven't touched the game since I and my buddy were through on the hardest difficulty, even though I'd still have some Achievments to do...

On the other hand, I still enjoy playing Code Veronica on my Dreamcast. In my Opinion one of the best REs out there, right next to RE 2. The jump to full 3D really did it for me back in the day and it just offers everything a Resident-Evil fan could want, from the very limited ammunition to the cheesy plot and the partially absurd riddles. Love it. :respect:

i have to agree about RE5 being more of an action movie game than a horror game,i think this game is a real let down to the whole series, there is nothing scary about it at all

is it out on PC yet?

It was leaked though I believe. I had seen some bots serving it up on an IRC channel.

Yes resident evil 4 and 5 were not the same as the others. Japanese game designers always have no problem bastardizing a series to try and line their pockets with more money for hookers and blow. "j/k about the hookers and blow part"

Bandai and Capcom are the worst about it. I must say Square was better before the SquareEnix merge aswell.
Thanks to Bandai(see Power Rangers lol), latest Soul Caliber is almost embarassing to play with the awful voice acting and some of the worst collision detection of its genre.

Well its action rather than "survival horror" now. I am a bigger fan of survival horror as it includes a brooding atmosphere you can get wrapped up in more than a horror movie if done right etc.

Yeah thats true....it wasnt as 'jumpy' as the old titles, but still a good addition ;)

it was a welcomed edition at best, Chris is my favorite RE character (REbirth was my favorite resident evil game, because 1 was my favorite)

in this order i'd say my favorite games

1.Resident evil 1/Directors cut
2.Resident evil Rebirth
3.Resident evil Zero
4.Resident evil : Code Veronica
5.Resident Evil 2
6.Resident Evil 3
7.Resident evil outbreak 1 & 2(when it was online)
8.Resident evil 4
9.Deadspace :)P)
10.Silent hill series
11. Resident evil 5

(The silent hill and Deadspace one are jokes)

5 LEFT all the elements of resident evil out, besides the characters threw in a new one, and than said here's an awesome action game...survival .....huh... what is survival horror? The limited inventory was to make it more strategic as gameplay goes, and honestly the only reason i used Shiva was to hold ammo she was useless otherwise.

I mean the game is good, but i would consider it the red headed step child in the series, and now that i look at 4, and really play through it for the 10th time, it is a great addition because it took the RE series to a new level with the camera angle and 3d worlds (like Code Veronica) and added something new, you were still doing that who "search and find a way out" game, but without zombies and angry Spanish men with axe's. In 5 it was more like "well you know what your here for you know what to do so do it and blow shit up and than put the game on the shelf to collect dust"

i played through it one time...by myself no friends (because Resident evil was always ment to be played ALONE in a dark room with the volume high and you on the edge of your seat)

This resident evil was like PARTY TIME LETS KILL EACH OTHER IN VS. MODE YA!
