i bought a powercolor 3870 512mb from overclockers.co.uk and since ive had it ive not o/cd it but it runs really hot and crashes after playing games for about an hour.after a reboot it says in ccc that its 90c i contacted ocuk and told them they gave me rma number, i sent it back, they tested it said it was fine sent it back to me and charged me nicely for the pleasure without even telling me how much it would cost, they just took the cash from my account so now im £22+p&p of £8 for me to send to them down and have still got a useless gfx card.the main thing thats hacked me off is that ive just spent like a load of cash at ocuk doing my whole pc upgrade.is there anything else i can do in regards to the gfx card rma it again or trying getting in touch with powercolor .think my next pc upgrade will be through a different supplier thats for sure.

The best thing you can do really is just adjust the fan speeds manually (via rivatuner for example, it runs far too slow by default), and/or try getting more air to it via the front fan, or sidepanel if you have one, these cards do run very hot, and i wouldnt recommend trying to take any further action with overclockers, they'll probably do nothing again and charge you for the liberty, that place, while having a good selection of products, and (occasional) good prices is a pain in the arse if you have to RMA anything with them.

yeah they dont seem very helpful i even complained to there managment about the fact they took money from my account without authorisation and got a quick reply which i was expecting a follow up to but nothing so far.if i have to adjust things myself to make it work with a 3rd party app then as far as im concerned it dont work properly.

Have a look at the 'sales of goods act' its up to them to prove its is not defective. If you are having any problem they have to take it back a few well chosen quotes from the sales of goods act often changes there mind.

well they took there time but they eventually replaced the card and the replacement arrived today and its a totally different card than i first bought,i bought the standard 3870 powercolor but they have replaced it with the 3870 XT Extreme, hopefully this will work ok with a normal 3870 in crossfire will it just run at the slower cards speed? ive read also about the fan running at 100% all the time is this true?

Well, the first thing I would do is dispute the charge on your account. They are not allowed to just charge your account without your autherization.

Then would dispute the charge on the original order with the card on it. Then I would call them and tell them that you have disputed the charges. Tell them you will not, for any reason, drop the dispute on for the RMA charge, it was un-autherized, and they must refund your money.

I would then tell them that you want a refund for the card, including the original shipping charges AND the shipping costs to ship it back to them for the original RMA and the shipping charge to ship it back to them the second time.

Then I would just take the money and buy a different card from someplace else and never do business with them again.

Edit: Check around her for the FAQ on setting up crossfire. Any 3870 should work with any other 3870. Heck, even 3850's work with 3870's in Crossfire. I think you have to completely uninstall all drivers. Then install the first card and install the drivers for it, then reboot the machine, then install the second card withou the crossfire bridges. Install the drivers for the card, then reboot and install the crossfire bridges. Then it should allow you to enable crossfire.

Wow, Newtekie is right. I like that idea and its something I would do. If nothing else, I would take it up with Powercolor.

Can you show us a pic of this strange powercolor/his card? Most, if not all 3870's have problems with slow fans. Like someone pointed out, use a program like rivatuner to set the fan at a higher speed. And as far as the money being stolen from you, take newteckies route.
