It's worrying in general how Americans and British people now seem to vote. And how the behind the scene pen pushers work out more and more ways to get our votes or subjugate our thoughts with their own.

I stopped voting when i realised that even the guy you want in power can't deliver what they said they would. The big evil world machine just turns and turns and it decides your countries fate.

Meh, politics is dead. Theatre is here to stay.

I doubt this was really a big contributor. When the tech fails you just fall back on old techniques. Their issue was they made the age old mistake of drinking their own cool-aid. The cool-aid is meant to for the voters to create the illusion of momentum to generate real momentum. It was never meant for the people at the top. Once they drank it they had no idea how bad or well they were really doing.
