I saw this yesterday. It made me laugh hard! It appears RDR2 suffers from the same witness malady that was so bad in Oblivion (and to a slightly lesser extent in Skyrim).

it would surprise me a bit if it wasn't a timed exclusive. Rockstar sold many millions of copies of GTA V on Steam but we'll see.

About egs exclusive... this, if "real", still would be wrong info. Rockstar has their own store and client so making their own game exclusive to competition's store would make no sense at all. Game may show up on egs as an option and still require rgsc just as it is right now with gta v on steam: it is on steam but main store and launcher is rgsc anyway. Or the division 2: it is uplay game but available on egs as an option and even there still requires uplay to run as uplay handles all networking in this game.

Yeah, you’re very right. Rockstar is not giving up their own launcher, with you linking to Rockstar Social Club whether you play GTA5, LA Noire, Max Payne 3 or buy from Amazon, Rockstar, Steam or whatever.

Was this the one you posted a month or three ago that can launch any game tied to any launcher?
Same one. Needs some exposure it seems because people STILL complain about desktop shortcuts. I mean..Windows XP wants its 99 problems back

Good. I wonder how long before all the steam fanbois realise that epic is doing better deals for Devs is good for them too?
I bet you won't elaborate, as I don't see how that is better for us when the games cost the same or more vs. Steam and we don't even get the per-game forums to help solve technical issues.

I how exactly is it better for the devs (not publishers) who already finished working on RDR2 with their 100 hour work weeks? Will they get bonuses because of the 12% vs 30% cut on Epic? No.

Simple economy, just think it through for a moment. Put yourself in the position of project planning and making an investment/deciding on budget.

Option A:
Distributor takes 30% of the cake.
Option B:
Distributor takes 12% of the cake.

If you invest 10 million, that is 3 million to Valve, or 1.2 million to Epic. That is 1.8 million to spend EXTRA on content, marketing, features, or hiring new devs. Or it means investing perhaps not 10, but 9 million, with 1 million ready to spend on a different project.

You applying this to existing games on the market makes no sense. This is a long term thing, not something you will see the effects of today.

That's nice, and you know that the sales numbers are identical how exactly?

And again, how is that relevant in the case of RDR2?

They don't even need to be identical, do they. Identical to what, exactly? The previous RDR2 sale on Steam? Oh, wait.

Surely you're smarter than this... open your eyes man. Its relevant to RDR2 because the profit will largely be invested into a new project - that is how publishers keep publishing.

Just as I said. Only the publishers benefit from this, and they are already billionaire welfare queens, so why give a f about them?

No. When a publisher has more money for future projects, guess who gets employed? Developers. Those studios don’t work for free. Somebody (the publisher) has to pay them and their expenses for years.

More money equals better games because less push by publisher to get a game out the door before ready. Publishers usually do this because money is running out.

So, possible benefits: more games; better games; more finished games at release. This is a long term vision that ultimately will benefit gamers.

Just so you know, go looking at financials. Very few gaming publisher houses have anywhere near the money you allege they do. A large number of publishers are actually quite small.

I could reiterate the points already covered by Vayra and Junkie but i won't waste both our times. We have all gone over it plenty in all the other threads about egs :D

The only other point is the specifics of this case in point. Rockstar's deal with take two might be % based on sales so they will be getting a slice of a much bigger pie.

It might not. They could of done a fixed price deal and all the extra income from the dlc here might go right to tt, idk?

Outside those 2 companies nobody will know. But we do know epic is paying more for every sale. 18% more on the base title and 30% more for the dlc.

Exactly just look at the fact that EA made some serious money with Apex Legends but they fired 600 people because it di not do as good as "They" wanted.

I would have thought with all of the money they have made from GTAV on Steam that this would already have happened.

EA doesn’t fit into any scenario other than their own. They are a special breed unto themselves of ruthless publishers who discard the dead husks of studios like dying fleas from a dog.
