If it goes up to 1500MHz even under water, it would be good to have a wc version for $300 imo. It should be right below the 980Ti-1070 stock performance. It's overclockability will make it tremendous success (as we all should hope for sake of competition and lowering prices) or just a huge bargain (that's sure already).

Shouldn't need water, though. A good 3rd party cooler should handle 200 watts.

Small size, low noise, bigger price for wc version. Could attract more enthusiasts, especially for CF.

yeah, i made that mistake...lol..

if this is true, that 25% over my 290 vapor-x OC (2755 in ultra) at stock.

add a decent OC, and we could be talking 50%.

for under $300.

Thats incredible.

Don't buy the hype. This card will be around 980, 390x, 8gb prob 240$. In a couple of months the GTX 1060 will offer similar performance for slightly higher price. Midrange.

Don't buy the hype of nVidia then, as it is far from now to be so sure. Instead, ALL leaks (officials from AMD about efficiency have some games tested too) are showing RX480 & RX470 being the bargain GPUs of all times.

no hype purchased, IF the leaked benches are correct, my statement stands.

Beast mode OCed cards will be $299 and could reach very close to 1070 level

again, IF wtftech leak is correct.

wtftech reprints all kinds of crazy rumors, however they usually cover their ass will all kinds of disclaimers. This article was written with a great deal of confidence wich is very different from theit usual tone.

Two weeks people. Two weeks.

Or are we going to have two weeks of more drivel?

Given how much AMD have hyped their past launches, they've not really done that here. They've firmly planted expectations in the middle. No promises of overclocking, no promises of being near 'x' performance.

And you know what, why are we being so forgiving for NOT having a top tier product to threaten Nvidia's nut sack kicking price domination? I for one am a bit pissed that they've sat back and after all the crap about how awesome Radeon Pro was they've stuck well into the mid range.

"But that's where the profits are!"

Since when did that matter to either camp. AMD have always tried to push out a Nvidia challenging competitor. Have they given up? I really, really hope not.

There's no hardware available to even make vega. I still can't, and won't be able to for some time, buy a gtx 1080 (800+ dollars for reference doesn't count). Nvidia paper launched hard to "beat" amd. They beat nothing and it's only 12% faster than 980ti lol.

They just need bigger market share. And the strategy they chose by beating soundly in FPS/$ is the only secure one to achieve exactly that. RX 460, 470, 480 could get the 80% of the desktop GPUs to be sold in next 2 months if 1060 isn't out soon enough. And that would do AMD the best advertisement until Vega is out. Popularity is a must to keep afloat a company in this competition environment. OPed and limited in quantity products like FE edition of 1070 & 1080 isn't a good promo for sure...

Having the claim to the most powerful performer is actually a good promo. It's why Nvidia are where they are. The 480 should be a really good shot in the arm for mid range gaming at that price point but the spanner in the works is how many Nvidia GTX 970 owners (or above) will go for it? It's hard to actually quantify the market share so precisely. Don't get me wrong, I want AMD to claw back share but I'd also like to see them fight for the top position. Fury X came really close (at stock, really neck and neck, game dependent) with a 980ti.

I'm just peeved that we don't have a heavyweight fight. It's good to watch the big mothers swinging at each other.

at which time amd will be releasing the vega cards which will probably offer 1080 performance for 1070 money and the cycle continues.

It is coming from vega itself so it must be true! So what's your performance level vega?

How else do the Chinese clone makers get their samples for reproduction and ******* get its next Bootleg clone line

By bootlegging last decades stock and bios flashing it, as you well know. ;)

There's no way China would invest in modern fabs when they are making dough by using our old chips.

They already announced the high overclock editions will have 6+8 lol

RX 480 TDP is 150W, an 8-pin connector provides an extra 150W. Have you ever before come across a retail graphics card that requires or allows 100% more power for its overclock? Because I sure as hell haven't.

I don't believe this is true, regardless of what AMD says. I can see a 6+6 pin or an 8-pin, but not a 6+8pin - unless (a) Polaris's leakage at higher clocks is absolutely horrific (b) they're going to make a dual-GPU RX 480 X2. The latter seems far more likely to me.

I'm thinking a single 8-pin will be more than enough. (for a single gpu)

RX480 will have a power consumtion of 110-130 in games. So, I agree it 'd be too much for a custom one to have 6+8pin together but if they are going extreme in oc and pairing it with wc solutions, it could need close to 230-250W if it was to have some headroom more with extreme voltages, and so it could use most of their ability to feed it. My 5 cents though as the RX series sweet spot to me is low prices for their performance and great efficiency.

Multiple AIB sources have announced the 6+8 pin thing? I could care less what you believe I am just going off of announcements already made, also to answer your question did you ever overclock a fermi card?

Also my guess for this situation is simple do you remember the Nano? This card will likely be in the same situation where it is heavily limited by TDP.

So out of curiosity what would your response be if an overclocked $220 or so card offered the same performance?

So out of curiosity what would your response be if an overclocked $220 or so card offered the same performance?

Not sure, I used to buy ATi/AMD cards, great cards but went with Nvidia years ago.
Not sure if I ever buy AMD cards again, unless their cards are going to be significantly faster than Nvidia ones with staying cool under load.

You probably refer to this piece from VRWorld:
VRWorld said:
...we know of several partner designs which will pack 8-pin connector, enabling serious overclocking capabilities (50% of more current / voltage available). Naturally, we will probably see dual 8-pin boards geared for superclocking
Couldn't find any more sources mentioning 6+8.
I can similarly speculate that the absolute most we will see is a superclocked version with 8-pin connector, since the stock card is running @1266MHz boost, and the absolute most we can expect from factory OC version is in the ballpark of 1600MHz (~30% OC). Pretty sure that 225W leaves enough room to wiggle a lot more MHz out of it. Given how much AMD is pushing towards "VR and premium gaming experience for masses" with "cost-effectiveness and power efficiency", and a list of current partners (HIS, MSI, Sapphire, Zotac [?] ), I seriously doubt that there will be a "super special LN2 edition" card with 16-phase power delivery and upwards 300W rating. Most likely it will be reserved for an upcoming flagman model with more capable GPU and at least GDDR5X.

that chinese joker who supposedly slapped on a MSI 390x cooler on his 480 had a pic of the board showing 6+8.

Thats the only one ive heard of.

MSI said it wasnt one of theirs, so it was most likely a fake anyway.

more leaks/rumours say that the RX 480 can clock up to ~1.5Ghz, almost Fury X performance (wccftech) achieved with voltage control and new OC tool
