New ATI DX11 Demos:

http://developer.amd.com/samples/demos/pages/ATIRadeonHD5800SeriesRealTimeDemos.aspx

The installer requires Windows7 but they should be able to run on Vista with DX11 installed.

Extract the installers with Uniextract: http://legroom.net/software/uniextract

Then replace the extracted msi installers with these: http://depositfiles.com/files/rx8fc71g9

I have patched them with Orca to remove the OS build check, they will now install on Vista.

Sadly I just get a side-by-side error when I run them, but I think my Vista64 install is knackered,

can someone else please try running them on Vista for me? thanks

:)

Thanks, did you have to install them or just extract and run the exe?

What VC++ versions do you have installed, I have tried 2005, 2008, SP1 etc

Are you on Vista 64bit?

I'm running windows 7 build 7100, and when I run the installer for the ladybug demo it says;

'This application requires Windows 7', I click ok then, 'Installation ended prematurely because of an error'

*scratches head*

definitely running most up to date DirectX, made absolutely sure of that.

Have you tried disabling the Nvidia driver?

Good point, the 9800GT is powering my second monitor, so just disable the Nvidia card for now?

For this demo yeah. It's likely the program is seeing the Nvidia card and not installing. You could just try going into the device manager and disabling it.

Wolf try my patched installers they will install the demos on anything.

I used the standard Uniextract option then patched the MSI's with Orca to remove the OS build check:

http://depositfiles.com/files/rx8fc71g9 (only 2.3Mb each)

just overwrite the original installer in the folder that Uniextract creates,

they will now install correctly on Vista or Windows7 RC1 etc :)

But when I launch them I get this error:

...and this in the event log:

Activation context generation failed for "C:\Program Files (x86)\AMD\AMD Demo - Mecha\Mecha_D3D11.exe". Dependent Assembly Microsoft.VC80.CRT,processorArchitecture="x86",publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",type="win32",version="8.0.50727.4053" could not be found. Please use sxstrace.exe for detailed diagnosis.

It seems to be a VC++ version problem but I have installed evey VC++ redist I can find and it doesn't help (SP1, x86, 64bit etc)

I think my winsxs folder is borked but I can't work out how to use sxstrace:

http://blogs.msdn.com/junfeng/archive/2006/04/14/576314.aspx

I just need to force the demos to access the correct version of the file,

I think I would need to build a custom manifest or somthing, but that's were I give up and install Win7...

:(

Thanks Nick that worked a treat, still bizarre that It didn't want to work in the first place, but it's a good workaround you have. And thanks again for your suggestion erocker :)

Damn that ladybug is detailed, so much texture in the shell and eyes, a good (yet small) taste of visuals to come :toast:

Glad they did the trick, I'm off to install Windows7 then... :D

IMO you will never look back, I can't see myself ever going back to anything else for a fresh install :)

I dual boot XP + Vista64 at the moment, I was running RC1 on a third drive for a while but I needed the space back.

I've got a good reason to have a tidy up now... :)

I just got Windows7 installed, the demos are very pretty and everything but it's a real shame there is no camera control,

I should have saved myself a lot of grief and just downloaded the video.

I can't help thinking DX11 is still missing it's killer feature, I could get excited about bump-mapping and HDR when they arrived,

but I'm still not sold on tessellation, compute shaders etc, only time will tell I suppose...

:D
