I apologize for this post if it addressed somewhere else. I have found several threads, with many solutions. None of them seem to work for me, so I thought I would post my own experience on here. I started out trying to flash the bios on a RX 580 x gaming edition video card. I backed up the original bios on atiflash, and I used polaris bios editor to make adjustments to the original backed up bios. When I went to flash (via ati flash in windows) the video card, I received an error message saying that the bios can not be deleted. I reset atiflash, and started getting "error reading from rom" message. So, my search began. I have tried to run atiflash through command prompt with administrator access, I have made a dos bootable usb drive to run atiflash, I have deleted the drivers, reset windows, and I can not do anything to load the bios in atiflash. I have unlocked the rom inside ati flash, and received a message saying the rom is unlocked. still get the same error telling me that the file can not be found, referring to whichever rom I try to flash. When I go in to dos, it tells me the adapter is not found. I have tried the pins 1 and 8 trick, but nothing changes. I'm not sure what I'm missing, or doing wrong. Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Might need unlock code, also perhaps msi put in anti tampering code in their bios. The only surest way to flash a vbios is to get a spi flasher.

My signature have links for self help too.

I will provide a few video links too.

@MrGenius, @Sasqui @Solaris17 what are y'alls thoughts

By the way use this tool as intended in Windows, disable antivirus programs too.

hmmmm

Have you tried something like rufus to make a freeDOS disk? Your read outs are confusing at first it indicates that it cant find the bios file (maybe case sensitive?) but gives you the error indicating cant right to ROM

can you try a different compatible version of ATIflash?

Thanks for the quick response. I followed the first video to make my usb dos version of atiflash. That is the one give me the message "adapter not found." I have clicked through the bad gpu bios flash links and it has a lot of the same information. I am running on integrated graphics right now, and I have tried different pcie slots on my motherboard, along with risers.

Take all cards out but 1, flash them 1 at a time, no risers.

I used rufus to run the dos version of atiflash. that is the version that says "adapter not found." The windows version is the one that says it can not find file.

the latest version of atiflash is the only one that works in the latest update of windows 10.

the screenshots are with only 1 card installed. No risers. It is directly plugged in to the pcie slot on my mother board, with integrated graphics running. I was just saying that I have tried every option I can think of, with the same results each time.

ok, have you run as administrator? Have you tried a different bios file name? Have you tried to flash again in windows to make sure the adapter truly isn't found? Some of the DOS versions are incompatible with newer cards.

It might be easiest if he uses the latest utility i posted.

Who knowa maybe msi is tired of the mining scene too so they injected some check/parity bit/signing in their cards bios...

I have a few other cards, and I didn't have any problems with them. They are all msi, and they are currently running without any issues. I think it was just a bad flash. I will have to try the other utility, I haven't come across it before.

I have tried renaming the file, changing it from bin to rom. I have tried the original, and I have tried the overclocked rom. It gives me the same error message regardless of what I use, or name it. It finds the adapter in windows, but in dos it does not. Windows gives me the error message that the file can not be found, and dos tells me the adapter can not be found. I run it as administrator each time.

it will not let me run the atiflash in windows, it only works with the command prompt now.

hmmm Tried to flash back to stock? The pin short trick is iffy at best, you may need a proper SPI tool.

That was an interesting video about the SPI flasher and NV flash not working. Given the cost of the fake card, the question is if it's worth getting an SPI flash unit?

have you tried force flashing to it. no other ati commands really work in win 10, even using admin privi shell , afaik ,but that one does, using .\atiflash -f -p 0 bios.rom

obviously only have that card in pciex slot1x16 (mian one)no other card fitted.
