Check whether it'll come with the Ryzen 3000-ready sticker:

On another note, I would recommend against the 3700X. The 3600XT is both cheaper and has better single-thread performance, the 3600 is just the value-town, and the 3900X has 50% more cores, depending on your usage scenario.

RAM should be fine; I'd recommend 3,600 because of IF scaling, but some people have reported issues with that speed.

If you already own the motherboard then yes, to make it support new cpus you have to upgrade bios to version supporting this cpu, otherwise new cpu will not be detected and will not work.

Check bios version you have applied on motherboard, go to asrock motherboard's page, check if your version of bios supports the cpu. If it does then you are ready, if not then update bios to version supporting this cpu. General rule is latest bios version supports latest cpus.

I’ve been using the B450M Steel Legend with a Ryzen 5 3600X since the beginning of March. Unless your supplier has some really old stock without a recent BIOS, you should be fine.

Note that with this motherboard (and others from ASRock) you’ll want to run the Fantastic tuning routine in the UEFI BIOS to establish the lowest speeds that your fans can run before you set up custom fan profiles.

I wouldn't recommend B450 Steel Legend, as its widely known with poor VRM, you cant go wrong with any of decent MSI board like B550 A Pro/Tomahawk Series

Get the 3600 and some other stuff. Given the current pricings, the 3700X makes absolutely no sense at all.

So the 3600 will be good for me as I heared that the 3700x with extra 2 cores better in multitasking and in render in programes like 3dmax and maya

How relevant are any voltage regulation differences if you're not trying to push a bleeding-edge overclock? If the motherboard is designed to handle a 16-core Ryzen 9 3950X, then an 8-core Ryzen 7 3700X at stock speed shouldn't challenge it much.

even for normal usage without any overclocking in mind, it's still objectively bad board when compared to similarly priced board that have much better VRM. You spent same amount of money that otherwise that could be spent on higher quality board.

i have a Aorus B450 elite and have used it with a 2700x for two years running cpu@4.2, ram @3400 and a 1080 @2100 without any problem at all, i do have a fan on the VRM but its just for piece of mind i have a p5 case which is open so i like to make my own airflow.
heres a pic to show vrm cooling.

Alot of people disagree with you, myself included. You can look at the numbers but 3700's are selling like hot cakes. Alot of people don't want to put 6 cores in a brand new modern gaming system the consoles are coming out soon with 8 cores and i think that will be considered the new "baseline" if you will, rather soon.
Edit* i see the price has gone up by almost 20$ since i bought mine a month and a half ago? meh, maybe you're right...the 2700x looks pretty good to me now for $60 less

Now, if only multithread game (engine) developement was so easy ... oh, wait. I very much doubt that 6 cores will bottleneck any gamer anytime soon.
Just because (a lot) of people choose something, doesn't mean that this is the correct/optimal choice. Quite besides, going by sales volume the 3600 beats out 3700X so ...

no you have a point, the thing is with the market as over-saturated as it is right now small changes in pricing can make certain options look less appealing rather easily. for example when i bought my 3700x not only was it almost 20 cheaper, but I'm pretty sure the 2700x was also slightly more expensive. As far as the whole multi thread developement thing, like i said as soon as both consoles are released i would have to think that's pretty heavy incentive for devs to start leaning that way wouldn't you? In other words alot of people aren't buying for what they feel is optimal now but rather what will likely be optimal in the near futue.

You aren't necessarily wrong obviously but fundamentally, making something like a video game utilise multiple threads is quite the opposite from a trivial task - it will take many years until we'll see a game that can fully utilise all 8 cores to their fullest. Quite besides, given SMT and all of that a game that runs on 8 cores should also be able to run (at a reduced performance) on 6.

Realistically, the only games that will ever be able to take advantage of all those cores are (heavy) simulations.

VR uses all the cores thats why i build that rig but not untillized 100% yet but ive checked with fallout 4 VR and halflife Alyx uses all 16 threads at about 70%.

What happens (performance wise) when you turn two of the cores off?
