Hey guys I've got a Gigabyte Aorus Master x570 board, with an AMD Ryzen 3950x. I'm running G.Skill TridentZ RGB 3200Mhz 4x16Gb (F4-3200C16D-32GTZR).

I am using the latest BIOS from Gigabyte (F11). I have enabled XMP Profile in the BIOS and everything set to auto.

Using HWiNFO, it's showing my Infinity Fabric clock at 1200Mhz and Memory clock at 1067Mhz. From what I understand, this should be at 1600Mhz with XMP enabled.

This particular memory isn't listed on Gigabyte's QVL, but it also seems to be missing a lot of others that should work (according to PC Part Picker).

Can someone help figure out this issue?

Well, PCpartpicker isn’t Gigabyte and it’s not a board manufacturer... but anyway, you can try some trouble shooting.

You can set speeds, timings and voltage manually.

DRAM multi: x32
DRAM voltage: 1.35V
PrimaryTimings: 16-18-18-18-38
Infinity Fabric(FCLK): 1600MHz
MeMCLK = UCLK
XMP: disabled

If this does not work, try DRAM 1.4V (b-dies can feed up to 1.5V with some nice air flow around them). If 1.4V DRAM does not work you can raise a bit the CPU SOC voltage (1.05~1.1V by default and depends on the CPU and board) You can see the current SOC voltage in HWiNFO sensors mode.

There are 2-3 ways you can raise SOC voltage.
1. Raise actual value
2. Raise SOC LLC (load line calibration)
3. A combination of 1 and 2

That's typical. Unlike CPUs, there are just too many RAM makers making too many RAM models for board makers to test them all. So you don't have to buy listed RAM but you should buy RAM with the same specs as listed RAM to ensure compatibility.

and the other obvious thing is you are using 4 dimms with 16gb modules which is overwhelming for any Ryzen's memory controller running them at max speed...

Okay I have an update. So I bought 2 sticks of Corsair Vengeance 32Gb (64Gb) to test out. Enabled the XMP profile, and bam, I am getting the 1600Mhz infinity clock. Guess this motherboard just didn't like the G.Skill sticks.

Ahhh, I didn't realize it made a difference in the number of sticks! Good to know :D

Is it okay then to have XMP enabled? Will it put more wear and tear on the memory over the long haul?

more sticks is harder for the imc to run

xmp is fine, only thing that can cause memory instability is heat, but you're safe at xmp speed

for your memory to hit xmp speeds you need to run enough voltage on the memory as well as the imc
your 4x16gb kit would have run fine if you had raised the imc voltage

Isn't that dependent on the number of ranks per DIMM/total? I.e. shouldn't running four single-rank DIMMs be as easy as running two dual-rank DIMMs? Or have I gotten this mixed up?

So I'm guessing the OP was running the worst-case scenario of four dual rank DIMMs? No wonder the IMC struggled.

Use the 1usmus guide on safe settings if you're having issues. My system with a 3900x had issues with the 4x8gb TDP 3200/14 sticks I used on stock XMP 3200, but using the 1usmus calculator solved that.

I ended up just staying with the 2x32Gb sticks and all is well.

Agreed, specs not being visible before purchase is quite annoying. I'm just learning about this myself. From what I've learned each memory channel can be split into multiple ranks (dependent on the number/configuration of the memory chips on the DIMM(s)) which are addressed separately by the controller. This makes it more difficult for the controller to handle more ranks, but more ranks also perform marginally better at the same or even slightly lower clock speeds and timings due to increased parallelism. I.e. Dual channel dual rank 3000C16 might match or outperform single rank dual channel 3200C16, but you might not be able to get it to clock as high. Controllers can also have hard caps on how many ranks they can address, though that is really only relevant to servers. This is also the reason why most modern PC platforms specify max non-OC memory speeds differently depending on the number of DIMMs installed (for example IIRC Ryzen 2000 was rated for 3200 with 1-2 DIMMs and 2666 with 4).
