Currently i upgraded and have 2700x. Now i am wondering if OC is worth it or does XFR does its job well enough so oc is not needed anymore? Currently i'm using stock cooler delivered with cpu, as backup i keep in its box cooler silentiumpc fera 2 with 1 fan included. I've read and watched some materials on this case and can't come up with single conclusion that's why i want opinion from people who already have this cpu and i want to know what did you do with your own one?

As motherboard i have asrock x470 taichi ultimate with latest bios (v1.52 beta).

Manual OC for all cores is no longer worth it. The best way is to use PBO to get better Turbo frequencies.

PBO?

I forgot to mention i plan to overclock memories for sure as i have seen this can improve performance a lot. I'm just waiting for second stick to come back from RMA as it was faulty right from factory.

Precision Boost Overdrive. Basically removing or raising the limits of the Turbo Boost feature of the Ryzen, making it reach the highest clock speed more often. PBO reaches higher frequencies than a manual overclock under "normal" cooling.
Yeah, memory frequency affects performance a lot, even on my cheap 1200.

How? My B350 has it. Maybe on your next BIOS.

Some still don't. Mine doesn't either.

I don't see a point in buying an x-model if you're not going to take advantage of the boosting features. That's where they shine, and it's a big part of what you pay for. With good cooling they will usually match or surpass a manual OC'd non-x right out of the box, if not with slight tweaking. And they'll still run more efficiently. They give you more power than you could otherwise get when you need it.

It only makes sense to all-core OC if you go non-x. Save a chunk of cash and get similar performance, but with a whole lot less power/thermal efficiency. If I had an X chip I would absolutely be making use of PBO/XFR. The only thing you have to watch is voltage. I don't know if it's a thing anymore, but I know when the 470 boards first dropped a lot of people were seeing certain ones overvolt.

Memory tweaking is pretty much a must in most cases. Nothing "auto" seems to work like you'd hope :p That's really a different animal though.

i sold my 1700 system and got the 2700x, but had only one board available to me that was in stock on that day... got shafted for some features

On the efficiency side, god its great... system runs nice and cold, and i can even game for close to an hour on my UPS if that need ever arose
