I'm not a fan of AMD lowering their pricing so fast after the release of a new CPU family. Some people have bought 3800X'es recently for 390 freaking dollars while they could have had 3900X for just thirty bucks. And I bought my 3700X for $350 (had to pay $20 for delivery - I'm not from the US).

Judging by AMD's previous pricing history, it will only go down from here.

Hopefully it will get to say ~$300 around RyZen 4000 launch window. I am looking to build a SFF workstation with these little beasts.

I mean you still have the same great performance right?

As for price difference, do you have price rewind or price match from your credit card or something?

I'm OK with its performance and it wasn't bought for gaming - I barely game at all and my previous CPU was more than sufficient.

Not sure how and if it works. I bought my CPU on Google Express (now called Google Shopping?) via BestBuy. It's now barely cheaper than when I got it.

Found it: https://support.google.com/store/answer/9631873

What qualifies under our price protection policy?

If the price of the item you purchased on Google Store decreased within 15 calendar days of purchase, you might be eligible for price protection.

I'm SOL. Besides those three weeks of price protection are not even guaranteed.

Intel has released a new CPU family each year for the past 15 or so years. I don't remember they've ever lowered priced of their CPUs (except maybe for the past 18 months given the competition with AMD).

I perfectly understand that but as a price sensitive customer who only upgrades CPUs each 10 years (I had Core i5 2500 before that) and GPUs each 5 years, I feel really upset. I do understand that most TPU users are from USA/EU and $500 are nothing for you but it's my monthly salary :(

You do know that all CPU's from Skylake to Coffee Lake has been based of on the same Skyelake archtechture just refined for each of their tick tock releases...

I am not sure about sure about the up comming 10th gen Intel cpu's if it's just the same old they released about in Q3'15 hurra for Intel just refining and turning to hit above 5GHz out of the box...

I moved from a good i7-8086K to a Ryzen 9 3900X and I am more then happy even running on a MSI B450 Gaming Pro Carbon-AC board.

Dude intel rarely cut price for already launched stuff

Understand your pain, but CPU are never going to hold values. Best thing to do is just forget about it.

Unless it is DRAM during an artificial price manipulation, or GPU during a mining craze

Have price manipulations ever been non-artificial? :D I mean the word "manipulation" kinda implies something is man-made.

Also, to my taste DRAM is still hugely overpriced. And considering that etailers allow such deep discounts it speaks volumes about their margins which are insane. It's not like they are selling AMD CPUs at price cost even now after shedding 16% off their initial pricing. Or 3800X which can be found for as little as $300 and were sold at $380 initially which is a 21% discount. It's all quite upsetting.

So lesson learned: do not buy AMD CPU at launch unless you absolutely have to.

Upset why. Tech always drops in price. That's why alot of people wait before buying hardware and get it after price drops and bugs are worked out.

First day buyers always get the stick

thats why i like buying the best price to perf to start with. The 3600 went from 200 to 174, so that's not terrible -- the 3800x was one of the worst price/perf AMD chips in the stack. Going from $499 to $419 is really not that bad in the face of new chip releases.

still - wouldn't mind picking up one of these 3900x's second hand at some point.

In my country CPUs (and pretty much all electronics) are always sold at MSRP + VAT, so I'm SOL anyways.

I bought my 3600 at the starting price of $199 + no sales tax, and bought it locally so I missed the s/h charge. The only added expensive was time, and fuel to drive into Anchorage.

50% off.

I do remember seeing tons of people on reddit prompting sale of 1900X and 1920X for dirt cheap last year, citing "You can always upgrade to TR3 down the road" which did not work well haha

Intel has released a new CPU family each year for the past 15 or so years. I don't remember they've ever lowered priced of their CPUs (except maybe for the past 18 months given the competition with AMD).
Then you have a bad memory. Back in the days when there was competition, Intel used to adjust their prices almost on a monthly basis.
It used to be trackable here
These days, there aren't really any changes on the official pricing though and haven't been for years.

I spent the equivalent of the price the 3900X is going for in the US for a 3800X, but it's how it goes, tech generally always only get cheaper, unless there's a shortage of RAM, hard drives or SSDs and the prices go up due to that.

I had to.

I bought the 1700X knowing there was an upgrade path to a 2700X, then a 3700X. I skipped the 2700X and went for the 3. Damn fine CPU frankly. But.... there's a 4700X (or something) around the corner. Sometimes that upgrade itch has to be scritched.

This. It goes for everything, games too. Wait a year post release and stuff is readily available, cheap and extremely cost effective.... oh, and fully patched and refined.
