Ryzen build planning

So, I'm looking to replace this half broken socket 775 system with a cheap Ryzen build. Current parts list:

Now, we're pretty well set on the 2400g and using 8GB RAM. I'm not sure how I feel about the motherboard, though. As a a320 board, it lacks some of the benefits of the 400 series... which are... I don't know? I'm not concerned with overclocking at all here, but I remember reading something somewhere about the 400 series having better boosting capabilities. Will the 2400g still boost to 3.9GHz as advertised (assuming cooling conditions and whatnot are met, of course).

Moving on, the memory. I'm well aware that Ryzen has some pretty nasty memory compatibility issues when it was first released, but the Zen+ series (2xxx, as is this chip, the 2400g). I know I really should be checking the QVL, but the problem with that is I have, and all the QVL memory seems pretty expensive. What are my chances using this memory with this board?

Cheap is the word of the day here, which is why I'm looking at this cheap board and memory.

Just go for it because if no OC then it will work as it should.

Yeah, no OC is planned. I just don't want it to not boot or get BSOD all the time because the memory isn't on the QVL.

Be aware of one thing: You get what you pay for.

If you can find memory that is a close enough match to something on the QVL thats in your price budget, you might be ok. As for the motherboard, if you have every intention of sticking with stock and default settings and clocks, go with what your wallet dictates. If thats a 300 series, then go for it.

I would like to hazard a guess and say if your just running things at base speeds then it wouldn't really matter so much on the ram, getting something half decent for cheap is never easy.. As @DeathtoGnomes mentions you do get what you pay for and sometimes buying cheap just makes you spend double the money in the first place which is never helpful or what you want if you're trying to save money in the first place..

By the looks of the G Skill ram you have there, it's B die as well, so it should clock well should you choose to go down that path

I've owned the G. Skill Ripjaws V series in the DDR4 2666, 3000, and 3200MHz levels. The only trouble I had was with the 2666MHz set not able to run on my motherboard at anything over 2400MHz. That doesn't mean the same will be the case for you. Overall...these sticks work quite well with the two Ryzen APU's I've used them with. I'm currently running the 3200MHz set at 2933...couldn't be happier...because this is where I saw the most FPS gains. I don't overclock the cpu/gpu. I didn't see enough there to make it worthwhile. 2-5 FPS at best...and a hot running chip...not worth it to me. With just an overclock on the memory, this apu is probably the coolest running processor I've ever owned. Barely breaks into the 50's when I'm playing Skyrim and idles in the mid 20's.

I looked at the QVL list on ASRock's site when I was going to purchase my motherboard...and to be honest...I couldn't afford a single set on there. Most we're either 16GB sets, or 8GB sets that carried a premium so high that I couldn't justify spending that kind of money on only 8GB's of memory. This is what led me down the same path you're thinking of going down. It's all worked out just fine for me...again...couldn't be happier.

I also should mention Tech Epiphany on Youtube, he has put these little APU's through their paces six ways from Sunday. I enjoy watching his videos.

Go for Ripjaws, they'll provide what you need. The only thing that a320 board is lacking is being able to handle ryzen 5/7 chips overclocked, I presume it's not going to get an upgrade? At this price point though it's excellent value for money.

Yeah, it's likely never getting an upgrade after this, not even a video card (which is why we're choosing the 2400g). As long as it's good enough to handle some light gaming and video editing, we're sitting pretty.

B-dies do not guarantee anything 100% sadly. My sticks are B-dies and wont go past 2400 Mhz.

The 2400g will do well, that a board should handle the lower end zen 2 cpus down the line if you were to upgrade, at that price that board is dirt cheap

Well that sucks but depends on the speeds and volts you use I guess Back when benching I was using upwards of 1.6/1.7v on my DDR4 ram.. Was kinda fun I suppose lol
