What are safe daily volts for VDDP & VDDG on Zen3? Trying to get 3600 to work but keep quickly getting errors in TM5. This is with 4xSR sticks.

I use 1.065v VDDG IOD, you could probably go a little higher, 1.045 or 1.055 is stock I think.. whatever that is :D

These are my settings that I run for my 5900X. Vcore is a bit lower with these new wussy AGESAs but whatever.. still has the bottom end grunt.

Seems I just needed to re-enable GDM, ran for 1 pass now without error @ 3600 16-16-16 1T, 1.0v soc, 0.90v CLDO VDDP/1.0V VDDG. That seems to be the limit with this old X370 board, 3600 C14 is nothing but errors & 3800 @ 1:1 doesn't even post.

For 1800 my boards set 1.1v SOC. I used to be able to do 1900 flat 14s but not anymore.. I may have pushed too hard at some point, but doubtfull since my board can only do like 1.8-1.85vdimm.

Clean install is a go. Drivers took no problem.

clean install solves 99% of problems I have found, its why I have designed my habits around having everything in offline backup. So I can do a clean install, with software all re-installed from scratch in under 45 minutes. Really doesn't take that long these days, if your just a gamer anyway.

On topic: I am thinking of just going yolo and getting the 7800X3D on launch. it will give me some extra fps even with my 6800 xt, and then when 7950 xt comes out, I will sell my 6800 xt. haven't fully decided if I want to do that or wait for meteor lake, but even if I do meteor lake I will be turning off ecores... so... i don't know, 7800x3d just makes sense to me.

Even though modern Windows versions mostly work with various different system configurations, I'd still say that a reinstall is a must when one swaps CPU or GPU brands. It was so weird when I swapped from a R3 3100 to an i7 11700, and Windows detected the new CPU as a 4-core even after I uninstalled the AMD chipset driver.

Personally, I see no appeal in Alder/Raptor Lake mainly because Windows 11 is highly recommended for them due to the improved scheduler. If you turn off the E-cores, you end up with a 6/8-core CPU, at which point you might as well get an AMD with 8/12/16 fully functional cores and stay on Windows 10. I think the 7800X3D will be better for gaming than Raptor Lake with no E-cores anyway.

I'm actually quite fond of Linux Mint these days, its very similar to windows UI and no bloat or spyware.
only thing i can't use it for is a handful of games, but most games work fine.
I plan to make Linux Mint my permanent home moving forward

7800x3d is what i am leaning towards. yolo

I would love to use Linux (Ubuntu and Mint are lovely), if it ran all my games, and if driver installation wasn't such a mess. :(

there is no driver installation, its baked into the Kernel of the OS from what I understand.

There about 20 games I like that are Windows only, but I can put them and Windows on a different nvme drive, still spend 99% of my time in Linux Mint.

That's what one of my friends does. As for me, if one OS can do 100% of what I want, I find it redundant to have two installed.

Well trying to make my old TR system a bit more of a workstation. Previous owner offered me the other 32gbs ram that was in this system, so I went for it. Had to back down
ram speed from 3200 to 3000 to accommodate it, but works a treat!

SIngle core boost via PBO on a 7900X3D. Specs even state up to 5.6Ghz
It's only gunna do that for brief light workloads, not AVX or anything

and this
Because programs utilizing the second non 3d vcache ccd will boost up to 5.6

the 3D cores wont boost as high, they're not symmetrical

Oh, is that how CPU-Z reports the quad channel?

Interesting, considering that dual channel is reported as 4x 32-bit on DDR5 now (2x 64-bit on DDR1-4, I'm guessing).

Did you see my post about TWWH3? It would seem that Game is smart enough to use the Vcache CCD in battles and the 1st CCD when doing end turns. I have the overlay from AMD software and a Noctua 3000 RPM fan connected to the CPU temp. During turns that fan spins as hifgh as 2900 RPM as my temps jump to 81 C but the key is the CPU clock speed that will be as high as 5.2 GHZ meaning that there is no way the 2nd CCD is being used to end turns.

What do I always say about the 3-month early adopter rule

Might have to just wait a bit for better AGESA or a better BIOS for your board. It'll come eventually. All the reviews show is that AMD's firmware team is incompetent as usual.

Regular Raphael parts hit their intended Fmax just fine in benchmarks, and none of these graphs should ever be in a V-shape, period.

Also, @JrRacinFan if you want to validate boost clocks, use something light like corecycler or boosttester and watch hwinfo.

It's only gunna do that for brief light workloads, not AVX or anything

This hasn't really been a thing for a long time. Zen 3 ST already doesn't apply an AVX penalty, as long as it's not heavy AVX. There is no excuse for CCD1 falling 200MHz+ short of Fmax. R23 is AVX.

Why are they in a V-shape, though? I don't seem to be having that issue with the 7700X (or at least I haven't noticed).

No idea, just that it's abnormal behaviour. Either should be a straight line for low boost parts that can always maintain Fmax, or a steadily drooping line with increasing core count. The only chart that looks even remotely okay is the first one.

The slight increase in 9-16 core AVX clocks might just be due to the higher clocks of CCD1 skewing the average. Though still doesn't make any sense

The 16-core SSE chart is just utter nonsense, as is CCD1 topping out at 5550.

I would have suggested just bad silicon quality (see the clocks on the 5950X review), but the fact that it's precisely 5050, 5250 and 5550 on the dot can only be an artificial clock limit. A bad SP chip that's struggling to catch up to Fmax doesn't make super clean numbers (ie. the 5950X review).

Both Hardware unboxed and optimumtech's 7950X3Ds were hitting 5.7 on CCD1, so maybe another board-specific firmware issue for some owners.

A piece of good news regarding my build. I rebooted yesterday after a few days of being online (up without a reboot, uptime more than a day or so, etc.) and sure enough, no hang at boot causing me to have to reset CMOS. I'm going to say that Memory Context Restore is a bad thing, at least on my system.

Personally speaking, I have no idea why it was enabled to begin with considering that with the recent BIOS update, retraining memory is a fraction of the time that it used to take so why even have it?

I hope I didn't jynx myself.
