Hi!

I've been trying to get a 32 GB kit (F3-2400C10Q-32GTX) to work with my Sabertooth FX 990 R 2.0 and an FX 8350, but have not been able to post at all.

Fans start up, but that's about it. My PC won't post.

Read tons of posts on various forums to find a solution, but I think I'm expecting too much from my motherboard and CPU with respect to the memory.

So my question is can this actually work? I don't want to overclock the memory to 2400 MHz, but just try to get all 32 GB to work. Does anyone have a working example and if so, what did you do to get it to work?

Thanks for taking the time to consider my question.

Doe sit even boot with JEDEC 1600 MHz? Or does it simply fail whenever the memory is installed?

I've tried 1 stick, 2 sticks in various slots, and all 4 sticks in all 4 slots, and not once got it to boot to bios. Just spinning fans, and the red memory led lit up. I've tried the MemoryOK function on my motherboard that is supposed to run through fail safe settings but with no luck.

I've tried setting different bios settings when I swap my current memory in (DDR-2133) but when I shut down the PC and then reboot with the DDR3-2400 I get nothing.

Usually DDR3 clocked higher than 1600Mhz is provided by an XMP profile which doesn't get used unless you manually specify that it should. It will normally default to JEDEC defaults.

For what it's worth, I had this same exact issue with my motherboard, same exact behavior. My solution was to flash the latest BIOS using ASUS' USB Flashback feature. It's entirely possible that a newer BIOS will boot with the DRAM. It did for me.

Effectively, I did flash my bios today to the most recent.

I've tried leaving everything on Auto with no success and I've tried D.O.C.P. with no success either.

I will try to manually specify an XMP profile. Thanks.

When replacing memory in your system, it is of the utmost importance that you clear the CMOS when you are swapping the sticks, especially if changing capacities.

That said, the MemOK function should be able to get you into BIOS at least once afterwords. If not, then the memory is simply incompatible.

That doesn't mean there is anything wrong with anything in your system; AMD platform and XMP memory do not always mix well due to differences in memory controller/motherboard design, and when you add in the fact that XMP is for Intel platforms, not AMD, even memory listed in ASUS QVLs can be problematic. For the greatest success in upgrading AMD systems, it is only recommended to use AMD-branded memory. I really hate to have to say that, but that's the reality of the situation.

With 32gb in your CPU is rated to go up to 1866 at best ,I got mine to 2133 but not stable enough and I'm at 1866 now but heavily cooled and 1.3 on my Nb 1.4 on cpunb but that's just my chip yours could be better,/or worse.

Was able to run my current RAM on my Sabertooth 990FX R2.0 it was the 1866 16GB kit... I use the XMP profile though.

Were you able to find the kit on the compatibility list?

From everything I've seen today, I think effectively the ram is just not compatible with the rest of my hardware.

Got it at a decent price. Shouldn't have problems reselling it for as much.

Will settle for 1866 if I still want 32 GB it seems.

From their manual:
SABERTOOTH 990FX R2.0 Motherboard Qualified Vendors Lists (QVL) DDR3 2400 MHz capability

G.Skill RipjawsZ F3-19200CL10Q-32GBZHD 32GB

So no ... as the kit I got are Tridents. :)

can u put in one old stick and the new stick to see if it boots at the slower stick frequency? And please arrange the modules in single channel config.

ok what is the total memory shown in the system? Does windows show it is seeing all the memory?

Now may be go back to the bios and set the speed manually to 2400, save the bios and let it boot. If the 2133 is capable of taking it the system will boot properly, if not just use the 2400 stick to see if the system boots. Now add another to the single channel and keep going until u can make the system boot with all.

BTW leave the timings at default. If happy save the profile.

So I filled the remaining slots and now have 3 sticks of 2400 and 1 of 2133. I saved it as a profile. Installed memory 28 GB but only 3.90 GB usable. Been trying to change that through MSCONFIG. Doesn't seem to work.

Not sure I want to change the speed to 2400. I am more interested in getting all the sticks in first.

@AnnCore For me in order to get my 32gb of memory to work I had to drop the speed down to 1600. It would not boot no matter what at 1866. Fx proc only support 1866 with 2 memory slots filled. With four it will either be 1600 or 1333. I also had to manually set the memory specs in the bios as it wouldn't detect them with all slots filled. I can run any 2 of the stick at 1866 with no problem using Xmp. You may have to set manual settings at 1600 or 1333 to get it to run 32gb. Here is the memory table from AMD.

In other words 2400 mhz ain't going to happen.

This is kinda what I meant(it is weekend my minds not on T ball)put 1 stick in and setup MeMok options for something like 1333 timings but looser ,when I get home ill post actual settings I used because a few are far higher then typical or noted by the manufacturer .

I can't even get into bios with just those sticks in. If I add a single stick of 2133, then I can get in the bios, and the bios sees the 2400 sticks but in Windows, although it sees them, they aren't available.

RE: MemOK!, did you hold it down for a few seconds until it started flashing?
ASUS website says this board only supports up to 1866 mhz.

Yes, something like 3 seconds and then it starts flashing. Doesn't find workable settings with just the 2400 sticks.

This is kinda what I meant(it is weekend my minds not on T ball)put 1 stick in and setup MeMok options for something like 1333 timings but looser ,when I get home ill post actual settings I used because a few are far higher then typical or noted by the manufacturer .

I think I'll wait to see how you set up your timings before I continue. Swapping sticks in and out of my rig is brutal on my hands as 2 slots are partly covered by my Noctua cooler and those Trident sticks are hard to stick in on the Sabertooth board ...

BTW, you can set up MemOk with different options? How do you do that?

Benchmark Scores What are benchmarks anyway?
Have you tried putting in 2 sticks and going into the bios and manually setting to 1333? Thats how I had to do mine. I put 2 in and set to 1333 then added the other 2 and booted it. All was good then I bumped it to 1600. That's as far as it would go before not booting. But I could always get into the bios it would just give me some kind of ocing error on the mem and default back to 1333. Could be that board just doesn't like that memory. I am running Gskill 1866 snipers.

Also looking at the specs of your mem, the jdec spd is 1333 at 1.5v. So that's where I would start.

Here is a shot of my settings.
