Hey Guys,I was just wondering, what temperatures are considered "safe" for my CPU AND GPU when I'm doing overclocking cause i don't wanna damage my hardware...

How about listing your hardware and your current temps? Then ask us this? :wtf:

70c is what I like to keep mine under. (CPU)
80c for GPU. But still with out any real information it is a guessing game.

Kk for my CPU im usin a 2500k and reaching 80 degrees and gtx 580 reaching 78 but I could still push a little further with overclocking so 90degrees wouldnt damage the hardware right?

80c is really pushing it. Heat takes life from your hardware the cooler it is the more you can "push it" . When you start to get above 70c you are taking a risk, Stability starts to get harder to keep and things fail faster. 78c is fine for a GPU. but you still have artifact's that can hit at them temps.

I tend to be a more conservative (like trickson).
The best we can tell you is that 90°C may be safe. It depends on the chip. Some are more tolerant than others.

The other thing you have to watch out for is if you hit the wall on what your cooler will handle, temps can rise fast. It's not necessarily a linear progession of clocks vs. temps.

Like Kreij said once you hit the wall on your cooling things can go south very fast.
Mine never goes above 63c!
Thing is "General" Doesn't mean that the cooler can take any more. If the OP is already at 80c that is dangerous! 20c more is all there is left and that would indicate the cooler is reaching critical mass!

Yeah, he wanted a general guideline, but we really want to give him enough information on cautious OCing so he doesn't fry his hardware.
Don't really want him to say he nuked his system because folks at TPU said it would handle it. ;)

point is, he wasn't prepared to give system specs/current levels, so he got GENERAL. live with it, don't get retarded about it.

Unlike you I am here to help. Just because you read and take things to the literal doesn't mean you are helping. Read what Kreij has to say and maybe you will see what I mean.
His temps are far to hot for his cooling solution! Safe also means "Before it FRY'S!"
What I see is an air cooler that has reached it maximum work load and things are going to get hotter faster from here on.

lmao true that.

i dont like seeing more on my i7 then 70c with a overclock at full load. safe to me with no overclock is 35c-50c

the video card i have sounds really annoying past 65C really loud. i dont OC my video cards either.

Voltage can be more dangerous as high temps. So we need more info to guide you. CPU will downthrottle if temps are too high (if enabled in BIOS-UEFI) and the same goes for the GPU.

"Maximum operating temperature: 72.6°C"

If it goes above that, it'll most likely start to throttle (leave out clock ticks to prevent it from frying itself) just like almost any Intel CPU since the P4 days, making the overclock essentially useless.

Nvidia GPUs are usually rated for a max. temperature around the 100°C mark, so 78°C is perfectly fine, but IMO pretty darn hot already.

Official max. temp for the GTX580 is 97°C
