Samsung 960 EVo 256 Nvme ?

I have a RyZen setup with 1800x and Asus C6H running 64GB 3200C14D 2x32GB kits and 2TB for gaming + 3TBx2 in Raid for VMware.

I need a fast boot drive for windows and page file. Is it ok to go with 960 Evo 256GB m.2 ? Is it good and what will be the advantage on using it as page file drive ?

Advantages for page file on an M.2 drive when you already have 64 GB RAM ? Hardly any probably. M.2 drives are still a fair bit behind system memory in both bandwidth and access time , having a page file on a regular SSD wouldn't really be any different from having it on a M.2 drive.

If you want to use the nvme for your system that's perfect. But just don't change anything on the page file. Let the system manage it

It is vital to ask whether you're planning to use the 960 evo drive for sustained read/writes or you only need its short burst speed for loading software/OS. They're notorious for throttling when reading/writing, just as any m.2 drive without proper cooling. If you need it for short speed bursts you're fine, but that said you'd be fine with a traditional sata ssd as well.

I just bought it and have started using it. So you are saying it heats up a lot.. ? Ya it's at 39 to 40 all the time. I can add additional heat sink if required.. will that be good ?

40 is fine. Is this your 960 evo drive though ? Cause it seems very low, especially the 4K sample

No that was my old SATA3 HDD.

The other one is 960 EVO..

yeah seems fine

if you're not throttling then it's fine. I can see that the ssd on c6h is positioned on the bottom of mobo and your case supplies plenty of air to that region with 3 intake fans.

What my 512GB 960 looks like numbers wise in my 1700 system. Drive is about 70% full too. In short, ludicrous speed for a single gumstick. I run the EKWB heatsink and in any transfer I have done over short or long time periods, the drive has never shown any reduction in speed / thermal throttling. And...I never saw it thermally throttle without the heatsink but it does run cooler

Set paging to 4096 MB or 8192 MB, set limit on recycle bin to 1024-2048 MB.

If anything, shrink it down in size, actually. I have run mine at 2GB static to reclaim space on my drive. I had either 16 or 32GB. But by default, it allocates a lot more than it needs to in most cases.

Windows 10 set my page to 5gb and I have 32 Gb ram. So its fine. 7 use to make it too large

do you have apps that max out your 32GB?

If so, i can see the dedicated nvme being a damn sight better than we have ever swapped to before.
