After last years diagnostic with bad sectors I re did my HDD hierarchy and had my trusty F1 from 2007 do mundane daily tasks save non critical data and hold a page file.
Today she has passed away. When trying to save some new wallpapers to her explorer locked up and was shortly accompanied by very VERY loud clicking and no response.
I will miss her and I was happy when she arrived at my door in late 2007 helping with everything from dual booting OS's to my steam library she has touched every piece of data on my machine at one point.
Today she will receive her very last head park command and be unplugged for the very last time. While it may mark the end of her career the actuator arm will once again make the long journey to the start position.
As it limps across the disk slowly making its way to its destination the servo trying its hardest with what little it has left to give. The other HDDs while faster and far younger will stop and time out as they watch the heavily read/write decorated HDD spindown to its fullest before queueing their own commands as a token of respect for holding the data together so that they may have the chance to take over.
Farewell Spinpoint F1 no tears only dreams now.
