Samsung F1 Not Good As An OS Drive?

I read somewhere in another thread that the F1 drive doesn't make a good OS drive, I don't mind using my 80GB IDE WD Caviar, but I would prefer to keep everything on 1 drive. I want to put the 80GB drive into another PC and sell it, and the 160GB will be used in my other old PC if I find someone who wants to buy it.

If not I guess I can use the 160GB HDD as an OS drive, but what exactly is wrong with using it as an OS drive?

I'm using my F1 as an os drive and its fucking fast. I wouldn't see why it would be bad as an OS drive.

Hmm, maybe it's specific to the 1TB model? That's the one I'm getting, should be here tomorrow or the next day. Might put Windows 7 on it.

The only reason it would be bad is if you had to reformat you'd lose about 1tb everytime unless you partition it. What I did was I got 2 500GB's so that I could have a backup drive with all my shit on it.

Yeah, I'll probably pick up a back up drive in a month or two, a 500GB would probably do me for a long time since most of my large files would be my ripped DVD collection. I don't have a back up drive at the moment, thankfully nothing that serious has gone wrong.

the F1 1TB's have slower random writes than most drives. It means that if your drives in heavy use with small files, it will perform slower than many other drives.

That said, its not that critical. its not going to stutter like an early SSD or anything.

set a static sized page file, dont do 5 file transfers at once while gaming... and you wont have a problem.

My F1 TB and 750GB drives work great as OS drives. Not sure why anyone would think otherwise.

Thanks for clearing that up guys, guess I'll use it as an OS drive then, only problem now is clearing some fucking space so I can download Windows 7 build 7077.
