Careful hunting has paid off for me, big. Just ordered 4 of these.
http://www.surpluscenter.com/Electrical/Blowers-Fans/DC-Fans/102-CFM-12VDC-SAN-ACE-FAN-16-1445.axd

There are 2150 in stock, so I figured I'd share the love.

  • Flow 102 CFM max.
  • Static Pressure 0.26 in. H2O
  • Voltage 12 DC
  • Amperage .52 Amps
  • Power 6.25 Watts
  • Speed 2600 RPM
  • Mount 4 hole on 4-1/8" centers
  • Blade Dia. 4-3/8"
  • Number of Blades 7
  • Size 4-3/4" x 4-3/4" x 1-1/4"
  • Shpg. 1 lb.
These are very similar to the legendary 109R1212H1011.

Received these fans and they are in good condition, some dust. Haven't powered them up yet. I'll need to solder on a different connector and I am waiting on my order of connectors. They look like H1011, spin like them. Can't tell the difference. Made in Japan.

I am curious to your results. Do they come with molex not 3pin? Will you have a fan controller or resistor in which you could undervolt them?

Its a dell 4 pin. I could sand down one of the middle guards and then rearrange the order of the wires but its more work than just cutting the plugs off, soldering new plugs on from some donor fan extensions. I have always been bad at repinning fans so its easier to cut and solder.

I have a fan controller, NZXT Sentry Mesh, I already run 3 San Aces on it.

How convenient, as that is my fan controller too. I am sure these are pretty loud, but how are they at the lowest volts in your subjective opinion. The sentry mesh when at lowest I believe has the fans at 5 volts.

The H1011 are quiet at the minimum setting, barely audible. At max they move a lot of air but they are better sounding then most. If these are the same fan, that is. I'll know once I hook up the connector. Some people have clicking, which larger fans tend to do when undervolted. Its not very noticeable to me. I'll cut the end off one and electrical tape it, the lazy way and then I'll let you know.

edit: yeah its an H1011, sounds identical moves identical amounts of air. Its very quiet at 5v.

Don't rush for me. I just am curious how these perform. I have been big fan curious lets say, and these are cheap. There is an even faster 150cfm nidec that looks like it might be fun to play with, not to put in a pc for $5 too.

Well I was curious how they ran myself lol. Make sure the Nidec is DC12V.
I will say the San Ace feel really delicate compared to other server fans so handle with care. Surplus Center packed it really well.

At 5v its maybe a small amount louder than a Cougar and moves the same amount of air, maybe a little more. At 12v it moves a ton of air.

So it is really quiet at 5v, but can scale to ear killing loud. Good to know. I wish you could see rpm on that but the sentry mesh just doesn't.

You can split the yellow tachometer wire off and run that to a motherboard header. I'd say its not ear splitting at 12v, but a Nidec BetaV or Delta with 150cfm+ would definitely be.

http://www.vortez.net/articles_pages/120mm_and_140mm_fan_comparison,17.html
That shows you the performance of H1011 (same fan)

edit:
I got them all wired properly and one of them is bad (loud bearings), the other 3 work fine. I'm going to try lubricating it. The 3 good fans work perfectly.

edit2:
well I removed the label with a heatgun and dropped some sewing machine oil in ... its still loud :( its a bit better but still pretty bad, maybe I need to run this thing for awhile.

edit3:
Gutted the loud one and made a kickass spacer, the other 3 have been oiled and work perfectly. Great fans.

How did you oil them? did you remove the snap ring behind and separated the blades from the motor?

I ordered 4, one of them was packaged with a broken blade, couldn't find it in the box. The other one had a nasty sound. I managed to remove the snap ring and oil the bearing and shaft. The noise was gone after nicely oiling the shaft. However, the snap ring seems to be a one time use as its now all bent and cant get it to fit as it was. Its so tiny that its practically impossible to use a ring remover/installer to do it properly :[

I just removed the label with a heat gun and dripped the oil into the back, replaced the label, and then ran it in for an hour in every direction to get the oil in. Sorry to hear that you had 2 bad ones, maybe they will send you replacement?

I was worried they'd be bare wire. 4-pin Dell header is better than soldering, imo. I just wish they were PWM. :(
I might get a handful of them anyways. I like being able to make my machine scream at the turn of a knob.

Not neither. That is a big heatsink.
I thought I could get away with massive surface area and quiet fans. Nope.

Edit: Can only get 4.8 GHz at 55-60c, 1.5v in bios with these.

I swear. A cascade cooler is starting to look reasonable.

I thought I could get away with massive surface area and quiet fans. Nope.

Edit: Can only get 4.8 GHz at 55-60c, 1.5v in bios with these.

I swear. A cascade cooler is starting to look reasonable.
What cpu is that running on. 1.5v is quite a lot. I am assuming sandy bridge because my 2500k needs 1.48v to get to 4.8ghz and it is on the poor end of binned chips.

FX-8350. 1.35v to 1.4v is stock voltage, if I'm not mistaken. It actually sits about 1.55v and goes up to 1.6v if the VRMs aren't kept cool.

...aaaaannnnd I just bought 10. I don't have a problem, I.. just.. Okay, yeah. But it's a wonderful problem!

..and that problem isn't going to be anything running hot.
Hopefully you won't have any DOA ones. I had 3 of the 4 I ordered work perfect.

Warranty Information
Products we regularly stock that are purchased directly from the manufacturer are covered by that manufacturers warranty.

We warrant all other products, only to the original purchaser, to be free from defects in materials and workmanship for a period of 90 days from date of shipment.

Because we have no assurance of the purposes for which any of the items herein will or may be used, no warranty is given as to the fitness of the item for any particular purpose. You have the responsibility for determining the suitability of items herein for your particular use. We shall not be liable for incidental or consequential damages.
The 90 days if it doesn't work seems fairly straightforward. It seems to imply that if the item isn't fit, it can be returned. I wonder if they'd want the item shipped back or if it's small/cheap enough that they'd let you keep it.

I have plans for all 10 fans, but at the price they are, it's probably worth ordering a few spares in case there's a few DOAs.

Yeah its a good price and the ones that work perfect are great. The other one made a great shroud and as a shroud dropped the temperatures on my CPU considerably.

I recommend re oiling them regardless. You can use a heatgun to remove the label and then put a few drops of sewing machine oil into the bearing hole. Then clean any oil spill outside the hole with isopropyl, and then stick the label back on (use heat to get it to re-adhere, smooth it down evenly so there's no bubbles).

I brought my 10 fans to a coffee shop and swapped the ground and tach wires, tested all fans. They all seem to work well. One has a very tiny rattle, but I don't suspect it'll be an issue.

I expected these fans to be louder and push more air, but it's also nice being able to run them at 12v and not have my ears bleed.

On an somewhat unrelated note, is there a TPU Fan Club (preferably with some kind of witty pun such as that) for fans like these?

Just bumping this thread because they still have hundreds of these in stock. Link in first post still works.
Have to swap the pins around, but I've been pretty happy with mine.
