SandyBridge Support?

Are the new Sandy Bridge processors supported by Real Temp yet? If not when will it be added? Thanks for Real Temp and the Help.

i beleive that they are. i have seen OC threads with the new processors where realtemp has been the temp monitoring program used. 1 sec and i will try to find a few.

I've also switched over to a different set of high performance timers within the CPU since version 3.60. This has eliminated other programs like AIDA64 and its side bar gadget from interfering with RealTemp's results.

If you want to see an example of what AIDA64 starting and stopping the system performance monitoring timers does to other software, here's a super sized .avi download that shows what used to happen before I switched to some unmolested timers.

I'm not sure what throttling you are talking about. These new CPUs consume less power and have the turbo power limits set quite high so the screen shots I've seen so far are showing full turbo boost even when significantly overclocked to 5.0 GHz and beyond.

The mobile Sandy Bridge CPUs won't have their turbo power limits set nearly as high so some turbo throttling for them should be expected.

RealTemp 3.67 lets you access these power limits but Intel has added a lock bit to this register. What that means is if a manufacturer wants to lock this register, all they have to do is set one bit in the CPU, which can't be changed by software after you boot up into Windows.

Desktop users seem happy but I think some new mobile owners are going to be a little disappointed. The previous 920XM and 940XM could be fully overclocked and you could increase these turbo power limits to the moon using ThrottleStop but I think the new Sandy Bridge mobile CPUs are going to be much more restricted. Have to wait for some feedback to see what manufacturers decide to do. Intel has made it very easy for them to lock their CPUs so there will be nothing that software can do.
