Sapphire 290 Post Issue

All,

I am attempting to test and verify some older GPUs that I have sitting downstairs.

I have a Sapphire 290 Reference Card that I am certain I flashed with a 290X back when I first purchased it.

I am attempting to put it into my existing desktop and I cannot get any video whatsoever to appear on the screen. The desktop will not POST.

When I put my 2080 Super back in, I get a message about my VGA is not compatible with the UEFI Driver.

I recall back in the day, the 290 came out right about the time the transition from BIOS to UEFI was starting.

If I have to flash the card again, I don't mind, but I'd rather not...... I did install Windows 10 in UEFI mode so I know I can't change it now....

I do have my Alienware laptop and external graphics amplifier sitting around...... could I possibly flash a UEFI compatible BIOS using my laptop??

Software Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 + Windows 10 21H2 LTSC (patched).
Benchmark Scores Cinebench: R15 3050 pts, R20 7000 pts, R23 17800 pts, r2024 1050 pts.
UEFI and BIOS have nothing to do with the card - motherboard compatibility. period.

U can stick a 6600GT into a Z390 mobo and it will work just fine. So you can stick an RTX 3090 (didnt try that one lol) at least a GTX 1070 in a 939 mobo and... it will work just fine.

Try to reflash it with original bios, boot it up with integrated graphics and flash the radeon.

So this card was on the original stock VBIOS. I had a couple of these.

The VBIOS did not support UEFI. I flashed the card to the original UEFI VBIOS and I get the same problem.

The Alienware and the Graphics Amplifier pick it up no problem. Maybe it just doesn't like my motherboard after all.

Try the 290 in the second X16 slot, for some reason this worked for a few people when it did nothing in the top slot.

Yeah I tried the 2nd slot. It does the same thing. I cannot get my desktop to POST. The VGA LED on the motherboard stays lit.

I figured it out. I got the card to work and as able to flash the newest UEFI BIOS on the reference 290.
I had to turn off Secure Boot and enable CSM/Legacy mode.
