Well, basically every game of mine that I play I get artifacts and after about 10 minutes of playing or so (it varies) my computer freezes and I have to restart. In ATITool I set the clocks to default and ran the Artifact Scanner and after 20 seconds I get errors. I'm just wondering if my video card is dead and I have to get a new one ... or if there is a way this can be fixed. Thank you

And when is the last time you cleaned out the heatsink?

i run about 40C idle.. I'm downstairs and it's cold down here so it keeps it a little cooler. I run about 55-60C playing games.

It has been quite a while since I've cleaned out the heatsink though.. :/

I have a saphire X1800XT 512 meg and it runs at about the same temps, although mine does not artifact at all when playing games (vista wont run atitool), but when i took the card out to put it in my new c2d setup (work in progress) i took a can of compressed air (im sure everyone is familiar with these) and blasted a buttload of dust and crap out of that heatsink. That thing is a dust magnet. I suggest blowing from the inneer part of heatsink (the end facing the inside of your case), then blowing air into the exhaust port. repeat several times until you dont see any more dust coming out, and remember each time to let the fan stop spinning before you blow air in the opposite direction.

hope this helps!

I am thinking it may be a power issue. I built his computer and we used a sunbeam psu in the build. that may be the cause of the problem.

Which Sunbeam? I had the Nuuo 550w running my OCed X2 3800+, OCed to 725/875 X1800XT, 2 GB OCed ram, 320GB Seagate, DVD Burner, Watercooling, 8 case fans, Sound Blaster, etc.,etc. You get the point. Ran it all for 6mo with no hiccups what so ever. It's going into my HTPC build next. It is a great budget power supply.

Is it the Nuuo series with modular cables and that fan controller thingy?

yeah I believe so. I have a little fan controller on the front of my case which shows the temp and i can control the speed of the fan. Yeah it has modular cables too

Then it should be perfectly fine on your combo, unless, of course, it's defective and dying. But mine served me well with no probs, in what was likely a more demanding setup than yours.

Did you check your system event viewer to see if it's logging an app or driver crash?
